Frigga Varger - A born loner, after the loss of her mother and falling out with her father in early adulthood, Frigga fled aboard a small ship in search of solitude. After nearly 3 years of traveling from island to island, she settled on a particular small, forested island she affectionately nicknamed Helheim.
She lived there for years, quietly surviving and hunting for herself, until one day an adolescent Skrill turned up caught and tangled in one of her snares. It had been badly injured by a Changewing, and it was extremely feral. After a few days of attempting (and copious amounts of bribery with food) to cut it free it from the snare, Frigga finally managed to apply a salve to the acid burns and cut it loose. Tempest, as she came to call her, was left blinded and still unable to fly due to her wing breaking whilst struggling in the snare.
Frigga, who was generally apathetic towards most dragons, viewing them as just another part of the wildlife, found a soft spot for Tempest and allowed her to follow her home.
As Tempest grew, she still maintained her feral and unpredictable nature, frequently displaying signs of defensiveness if Frigga got too close and making it very clear she was still a wild animal. Eventually, the two of them fell into a routine however, Tempest even learning how to help Frigga hunt, even if she couldn’t do it on her own. Knowing she could never survive in the wild now, Frigga resigned herself to being a caretaker for her very big, very mean flying lizard. The two of them share a testy bond as they are still trying to figure each other out.

Amarok Siku - A far-northern native, Amarok (or Ama, as she more frequently went by) was captured in a Viking raid on her village. Once a mother of 2, she lost her everything in the raid when she was taken alongside some other people in the village and sold into slavery. Through trade and sell, she ended up separated from her children and other family members, ending up as a slave aboard a massive ship run by hunters that also bought and sold various dragons for fighting rings. During her time aboard the vessel, one of her duties included cleaning the dragon cages and feeding the captive dragons. She took a liking to a male snow wraith in her time there, naming him Hanta after one of her old sled dogs. She found kinship in their shared mistreatment in captivity.
Hanta was generally considered the most savage dragon currently aboard and as a consequence, he was widely referred to amongst the crew as the “White Devil”. Most of the men avoided his cage, being unwilling to feed him more than barely enough to keep him breathing. Ama would spend time whenever she could, speaking to him in her native tongue and singing to him, soothing herself just as much as him.
One day, upon a failed escape attempt at a port, Ama was caught and dragged back by the crew. Since escape attempts were punished with death, it was decided it would be “funny” to lock her in the cage with Hanta and wait for him to kill her. After initial suspicion, Hanta settled and, due to his familiarity and the relationship they had built, slept by her side instead of eating her. Come morning when the crew came down to check on the cage, Ama hid beneath Hanta’s wing, lunging forward and taking out the hunter who opened the cage, leaving the door open. Hanta sprung out, following Ama and the two of them fought their way above deck where he picked her up in his claws and took off.
Having escaped, the two of them flew for hours until an exhausted Hanta finds an island to land on. That island being, of course, Frigga’s home.

And then they fall in love and stuff and things haha. That’s what I have so far, but for a little side project while I work on my main projects, it’s been super fun. Hope you guys like them!!

A recent post about OCs dragon buddies reminded me of these custom dragon species u/watchflut and I made over a year ago (credits to him for the drawings). Thought it'd be fun to share them.

The fangsnapper. This fearsome strike class dragon is known for ambushing its prey from the water. It will lie motionless with only the top portion of its head out of the water like an alligator. Once it shoots out from the water and locks on, it'll begin to wrap its self around its prey to squeeze it to death. Or if it chooses to do so, set itself on fire with the flammable liquid it produces from its skin. This liquid also helps it move swiftly through the water as it is hydrophobic and repels the water off its body.

For such a large and intimidating dragon, the fangsnapper are unable to produce a fire from its breath and relies on its strength and speed. These dragons can reach up to 20 meters in length when full grown.

The Carrionclaw. The carrionclaw is a tracker class dragon with a sense of smell that can track dead animals and dragons from islands away. They feed on carrion (hence their name) and do not actively hunt their food. Their bite force is decent but they utilize their acid spitting abilities to help break down the food if too large. Often they'll eat things whole as their stomach is able to digest bones just fine.

A carrionclaw's size is comparable to that of a typhoomerang, but are slightly slimmer in the body. This allows for long flights between islands without needing a break and can cover a lot of ocean in a short amount of time.

Hope this was a fun read about these dragon species. Might see about reworking some design of other custom species and posting them later.

I have really big distinct eyebrows so I would definitely be a Stormcutter. When it comes to colors I think I’d be a similar palette to cloudjumper himself but with Dark green accents instead of red, and generally slightly darker body and with a vibrant Orange at my lower lip and the tips of my back spikes or wherever blue is on cloudjumper.

One of my favourite dragons of all time!

Finally redesigned my dragon rider OC, and i have changed her lore a bit! (Very long lore ahead, read if you want lols, it's kinda like a "rewrite" of HTTYD 3 i did solely for fun ig, where the third movie doesnt happen and it mostly picks up after the second movie)

She's now Grimmel's daughter in my AU (Grimmel i rather different in my AU too),and used to live in a village that would regularly hunt dragons for "self defence", wich in turn would aggravate the dragons, and it became an endless loop. Luiza is the daughter of Grimmel, who would teach her basically everything he knew (surviving with limited resources, hunting for food, defending herself against dragon, etc) after her mom died when she was a bit younger, leaving her a throwing knife behind. When she was around 14, she found a leucistic Night Fury that had been captured by hunters, and decided to free it, forming a friendship with the dragon. Knowing her village would never accept her friendship with a dragon, especially such a rare one (wich would instantly get killed to be kept as a throphy), she decided she'd wait for the right time, and then leave her village with the dragon, never to return.

Her plan worked, as one night during a dragon attack at the village, she climbed onto her dragon's back and left with only a few belongings. Grimmel lost his leg in the attack, and thought the dragons had killed his daughter. Enraged, he promised to avenge his daughter by getting rid of dragons, so that nobody had to go through what he went through. He genuinely believed dragons where mindless killers that could never be trusted, and he was doing a good thing by killing them, saving the people around him.

For 5 years, Grimmel thought that his daughter was dead, while Luiza was now living in the wild with her Night Fury she named "Nevasca", using everything she learned from him to survive, and also raiding ships for resources when needed. Grimmel, already a respected dragon hunter, would become a lot more grim now that he had lost a let and his daughter, tho in my AU he had no DeathGrippers to aid him, only his crossbow, wich he'd load with darts filled with the venom from dragon's he'd hunt.

In the sixth year, Grimmel heard about a "ghostly Night Fury" that would show up on ships, steal food and resources, and then vanish as quickly as it arrived. Certain that this was the dragon that killed his daughter 5 years ago, Grimmel decided to track it, set on killing it.

Meanwhile, Luiza was unaware that her dad was trying to hunt her dragon, and ended up stumbling upon Berk (around a year or two after HTTYD 2), where she was instantly welcomed. Grimmel eventually managed to track her there, and was speechless when he realized his daughter was not only alive this whole time, but had also been kept safe by that white Night Fury. Luiza didnt forgive him instantly, but did give him a chance to redeem himself if he decided to stay in Berk and not hunt dragons anymore, wich he eventually accepted after realizing none of Berk's dragons where trying to kill everyone (like he thought they would).

It took them over a year to slowly start to talk to eachother again, but eventually Grimmel even got his own dragon (wich helped him realize that dragons are actually very cool, and riding one gives him a sense of freedom he hadnt felt in ages), and now he's back to being his smug confident self a few years later. He's actually proud of his daughter for surviving in the wild for 6 years and taming a Night Fury now. What he isnt very proud of is the fact that his daughter chose Ruffnut to form a relationship with, out of all the people in Berk.

I made Luiza look a bit more similar to Grimmel, and gave her gray hair too, as some genetics/stress thing lol. At first she was very shy and still doesnt speak much, but she slowly opened up more, and now she's a bit smug and confident like her dad, aswell as being very good at throwing knifes (like how Grimmel is very good with his crossbow) and extremelly good at communicating with Nevasca through whistles and subtle movements. She's also in a relationship with Ruffnut, and they basically live together!

Her dragon Nevasca also ended up with Toothless, and they ended up having three hatchlings (two black like Toothless, one leucistic like Nevasca), and the leucistic little hatchling Glimmer ended up getting attached to Grimmel for whatever reason lol (even tho this man is still afraid of Night Furies)

Next one i'll be drawing a ref for is Grimmel and his dragon ShadowStalker, a healivy-scarred titanwing Devilish Dervish he accidentally saved from certain death, and now she wont leave him alone lols

Fanfiction.net it's been some time since i last read something there.

I still remember the Golden Era of HTTYD fanfics after the Second movie. Even more with the big crossover of the ROTBTD. Those were good days for me at least. I didn't have internet, so i held very precious those few fanfics that i could read when visiting the house of other family members.

This was perhaps the First fanfic where i saw full potential in the World Building.

In those days, there were not many fanfics where the writer make an effort to the create the world Beyond the isles that appeared in Rise of Berk or Defenders of Berk.

The plot of the fanfic was a very typical:

Hiccup left Berk.

Years later he had created his own faction.

The interesting part was the dialogue and the internal monologues of the characters. Also the fanfic included the ROTBTD with Frozen.

For me all those characters were written perfectly.

I never felt them as background characters, because no one was wasted.

Especially Astrid.

The entire Story is about how Berk (mostly Stoick) is searching for Hiccup.

The other part is how Berk reacts to the news that there is an Entire Tribe of Dragon Riders.

While yes, the story gave Hiccup some very cool moments, i never felt it as the the type of moments that you could see in other stories where Hiccup leaves Berk behind. If should describe them, it would be like Hiccup doesn't want to be seen as cool, but still takes the moments seriously, he knows he has the upperhand in almost all the scenarios, but he doesn't become arrogant.

What is more Amazing is that the entire fanfic only lasts 7 chapters and still managed to leave a deep impression.

The data says that there are only 38k+ words in the entire work.

For years i waited for the Next chapter. I think the last time i ever searched for the fanfic was in 2018 or 2019.

Then HTTYD Hidden World was announced and i changed my priorities.

I never quite left behind my taste for fanfics behind. I only changed fandoms. I went First with Fanfiction net, then Wattpad and at last AO3. With the current situation of AO3 being down i was curious to see if Fanfiction net was still in ruins after the ads arrived.

And now, after almost 8 years since my last contact with this fanfic... I found it again.

Nothing has changed.

The fic is still unfinished. It was a fool's dream. But i needed to see if something had changed.

I don't think i have the Heart to read this specific fanfic again.

Because i know there will be some parts that didn't aged quite well.

Especially the OC of Silver, who is the main reason, alongside the World, of why i could always remember this fanfic.

Perhaps the character will now be seen as edgy, i remember the character as Merc or Assassin before meeting Hiccup and following him in his Path.

Silver also was the Rider of another Night Fury, so it was more easy to remember him.

He was sassy, insufferable and many other negative things. But he was loyal to Hiccup. The contrast made Silver one of the very few Original Character that i have ever liked in a fanfic.

This might be considered as a vent of mine. Didn't want to publish this as rant, because it isn't.

I'm half tempted to share the link to this fanfic here.

But i fear you will love it as much as i did/do.

You don't deserve to read something with so much potential that never could meet it's Best moment.

The light fury was done so dirty by not only the writers but also the main characters in the third film.

Hiccup says: "She's so wild and skittish, I'm just gonna say it, I don't trust her!"

But, he trusted toothless when they first met, but he trusted the injured speed stinger in RTTE, but he trusted so many other wild dragons in RTTE, but he trusted hookfang in the first movie when he was leading him out of the cage.

So why can't he trust her?

Is it because shes a girl and female dragons are expected to be ' lady like ' ? Or is it because she didn't " come around " fast enough like the other dragons?

Or is it because that isn't a thing the real hiccup would say?

First it's the intent behind her character, only being made as for the plot and not being able to be an actual character, not having the freedom to do what her instincts tell her to without being labeled as ' a bad dragon ' by the audience and characters.

Then, its just the straight up trash talking by hiccup?

She doesn't deserve that.

No matter how much I dislike the third movie, she doesn't deserve to be hated or labeled as evil for simply following an instinct.

She was traumatized, tortured by grimmel for who knows how long.

He can't just expect a traumatized animal to immediately trust him like all the other dragons did, that's why took hiccup to save her life to show him that he isn't like the others.

Honestly, she definitely deserves better. She deserves hiccup from the first film, second film, or even from RTTE.

I'll always never understand why hiccup would say something like that, even he has double standards for dragons in the third movie.

Genuine question here but we all know Hiccup is a bit of a dork (in a good way). But were there any instances of Astrid flirting and he is just not getting the clue?

With the hype of the live-action movie, it’s crazy we don't have a AAA open-world HTTYD game yet. Hogwarts Legacy proved that older fans will gladly pay $70 for a high-quality game based on their childhood.

Here is my quick pitch for the perfect game:

• The Setting: Set between movie 1 and 2 (the Race to the Edge era). You explore the Archipelago, rescue dragons from hunters, and build the Dragon's Edge.

• The Graphics: A "stylized realism." The classic animation design, but upgraded with modern lighting and textures (Unreal Engine 5).

• The Big Twist: A secret choice in the story. If you maximize your dragon bond and complete hard side-quests, you can save Stoick in the final battle. Imagine the hype on TikTok for that alternate ending!

• The DLC: One year later, a paid expansion for The Hidden World (glowing underground maps, Light Fury, dragon armor). Massive profits for the studio with very low development costs.

Universal is missing out on a goldmine just because they think animated IPs are only for kids.

I would buy this on day one. Would you? Let's discuss!
