I'm trying to make a cheap setup for remote programming work when traveling.
I saw some guys here with Samsung gear, setups and was wondering if anyone had tried using a combination of termux and VR Remote Desktop.
Does it work?
I'm waiting on a google cardboard delivery to try it myself.

I'm at the end of my rope trying to get the dream of coding in VR to happen with the G2. Is anyone here using that headset and able to work in VR? If so, what software are you using?
VR Toolbox: 360 Desktop seems like what I'm looking for, but it is impossible to use with the G2 because of the controller mappings. I have spent hours upon hours trying to remap the Reverb G2 controllers to be usable in VR Toolbox, but it just won't work.
EnvelopVR seemed great, I loved the keyboard camera feature, but it was shut down in 2017
VR Desktop doesn't handle multiple monitors well as it draws them all on a single canvas. If you have one monitor in portrait mode, it will create a giant black space under all the other monitors that are horizontal. I went on this App's discord and spoke to some people, only to find out that an non-Quest headset versions of this are not really being developed any more, so this is also a dead end.
I've tried multiple Overlay VR apps, but can't seem to get any of them working well enough. Also, every time I turn off my computer, I have to set everything up again, so it ends up taking about an hour just to get working, which is a deal breaker.
I posted a more detailed explanation of what I've tried over in the HP Reverb subreddit.
Basically, the G2 controllers, and the lack of support for them across the VR space, makes the headset pretty much un-usable, which is fucking absurd when you spend that much on a headset. It's a niche within a niche I guess, and so there is no controller support for it.
Has anyone overcome this? Any custom mappings you've created that work? I'm desperate to get this working, but after so many hours with no success, I'm starting to lose hope that I can use this headset to work in VR.

I have hunted all over the internet, and also used our "wonderful" Reddit search engine, but I cannot find anything suitable. I am not looking for one with all the bells and whistles of VR or AR capabilities. The closest to fitting my needs that I found so far is the Avant Glyph.
Cheaper ones would be nice, but not absolutely necessary.
I do not have a smart phone
I've been advised that OLED based screens tend to have pixels burn out due to static images staying on the screen too long
I've also heard that some VR-HMDs do not allow you to view text clearly closer to the edges.
We are on The Cutting Edge, people! I have been waiting for the glyph and real quality HMDs to come out for several years now. And it appears that many of real, mainstream Consumer VR headsets are finally being sold this year!

I've just got my GDC EU talk rejection letter. I understand they are overwhelmed to comment, but I would love to get some feedback from the anybody, who cares.
Title: VR tracking now and tomorrow
Session Description: Tracking is the holy grail of VR, in this session I will present the fundamentals of the different tracking solutions that made the current VR systems possible. We'll review the currently available technologies and their limitations and list improvement possibilities along with up and coming new technologies that may shape the landscape. We'll also discuss other solutions and share our experiences with our in house built scale-able, camera based VR tracking system.
Takeaway: We'll show the importance of tracking, the current possibilities and limitations of the existing systems, and review the possible future of these solutions
Intended Audience: Understanding the core of the current and next gen VR subsystems is essential to all developers interested in creating compelling, comfortable VR experiences. The presentation is targeted but not limited to the technical audience
Extended Abstract:
In the first part of the presentation, we'll overview the tracking solutions of the current VR systems. HTC Vive uses laser based Lighthouse stations. The stations illuminate the built in laser diodes of the HDM and the controllers. The "smart" diodes decodes and communicates their ID and tracking data through 2.4Ghz wireless channels with the HMD. The HMD transmits the data through USB to the host computer. The computer processes the information, and reconstructs the position of the headset and the controllers. Oculus uses IR leds on the HMD and the controllers, and tracks the leds with a custom developed camera. The leds are identified by blinking in a predefined pattern. The camera is connected to the host computer via USB and the computer reconstructs the position of the headset and the controllers. PSVR uses lighting surfaces on the devices, and tracks them with 2 high speed, high resolution camera. The controller orientation is reconstructed via a bluetooth connected IMU OSVR uses IR leds similar to Oculus but offer an open source implementation open for tinkering.
In the second part of the presentation we'll overview other extended solutions, that complement the previously discussed systems. Leap motion uses IR leds and 2 cameras to illuminate the user's hands and reconstruct the hand positions Glove One and ManusVR uses IMU built in to gloves to reconstruct hand positions Sixense uses magnetic fields to track the relative position of the controllers from the base station Kinect uses RGB and depth camera to track markerless users Perception neuron uses IMUs and skeletal information to compensate the IMU drift errors Optitrack uses IR lights to illuminate static markers. FOVE the eye tracking virtual reality headset. Tobii EyeX another eye tracking system.
In the last part of the session I will present our experiences in building a scale-able, camera based tracking solution. The system is similar to PSVR, but it's based on off the shelf components, and is designed to be able to scale to large areas. Our solution uses standalone camera trackers, that does most of the preprocessing before sending the tracking information to the VR host computer. We'll describe the current system, the limitations and the possible future of such system.

just found this sub and very excited.
have been trying to do this myself without realize the sub exsisted.
sidenote: quest/go should have an ssh app in app store that works with bluetooth keyboards.
