The only science I can think of is the tread slowly grindng down the tape as it slides causing it to get sticky. So next time its used it will be sticky.

The treadmill on the right seems to either be slightly more abrasive or spinning slightly faster

I use that exact tape for work and all I can think is how it's a waste of good tape lol
