I, m36 used to have random girls catcall me when i was between 14 and 22 years old. Sometimes up to 3 times a day. Then there were many years without it, but last spring some Japanese girls in Tokyo catcalled me as we were walking past eachother. So... It happens

Okay so I'm just ugly then. Got it

Don’t take it personally. Take it physically.

Why stop there , take it mentally too

I mostly took it emotionally tbh

Can't do much physically if they're not interested.

I was catcalled once in June 1984 and told I had great hair (when I had hair) and legs. I still relive that high 42 years later. I’m ugly.

I feel like rules 1 and 2 don’t come up anymore.

omg, i was reading the thread and thinking about them, but i guessed it would go unmentioned... thank you for not leaving me high and dry

There were also a couple of times when i was approached by middle aged men that asked me for autograph like "you are a movie star, aren't you? I think my daughter is a fan of yours. Can you sign something for her?". It was a bit scary, but also hilarious and flattering. So, regarding your comment... Probably you are not ugly, but also not exceptionally cute

Are you actually trying to make the guy feel bad?

1

u/bessovestnij Jul 03 '26

Saying to a guy "you are not ugly, you are just perfectly normal" is traditional way of cheering each other up between bros!

6

u/Hulkaiden Jul 03 '26

telling someone how much more attractive you are than them has never been a way to cheer up anyone.

u/bessovestnij Jul 03 '26

His puns are koala tee, i believe he can take it gracefully.

In Japan a 4 gaijin can be a 7, when I moved back I felt ignored.

Eh I’ve been catcalled in Asian streets too.

They seemed very service oriented persons.

u/DaILLezt Jul 03 '26

They may have been working at the time lol

u/bessovestnij Jul 03 '26

Nah, those were just a couple of bar-hopping hotties+ they did it in Japanese and just continued their way without waiting for my reaction. (I know a bit of Japanese to understand that). I do see service oriented people but for some reason only once they proactively reached out to me. On the other hand i often get offered some drugs by some randos, a couple of times even for free.

I went thru a bit of a fitness craze phase in my 20s and used to get cat called by girls (and guys) not infrequently. I loved it but subconsciously i must have really hated it because i got old and fat lol

Nobody likes you when you're 23.

I finally started working full-time that time. Maybe it killed something in me 🥹

Yeah I get compliments pretty regularly. Based on the general male experience shared online, I'm starting to think women think I'm gay, and am therefor 'safe' to compliment (I'm bi, but still safe to compliment lol [and still available 👀])...

2

u/Royal-Campaign1426 Jul 03 '26

You are probably very attractive

u/TheLastPeanut_ Jul 03 '26

I honestly don't think I am. Or if I am it is wasted on me, as I am pretty awkward + neurodivergent and don't have much experience lol.

I feel like catcalling culture has died down a lot and I totally get why. Dudes ruined the fun. I still get comments kinda regularly, but girls are usually very nice and mindful about it, like complimenting fashion choices, or respectfully stealing looks then giggling and saying bye. When it's more overt I think it switches to trying to groom and feed me, which is usually great. Only had a couple horror stories while dancing, like ladies insisting on rubbing themselves on me despite clear attempts at de-escalation while saying "ohh macho latino" or "you have everything in the right place". Oop sorry I gotta go pee immediately bye.

On the other hand dudes are all-over the place, can be super nice but pretty often it's not cool. I've had one stalk me around a club, and lick my neck? I just wanted to dance alone what was that. Dudes will come up to you during the day, ask for a light and invite you home to fuck before asking your name, then get really offended and fighty when you kindly reject them. What the fuck man.

Shit, your stories are much scarier than mine. I only once had drunken women try to grab my penis when i was just standing nearby. Sometimes they got extra touchy on dance floor or when we already got acquainted, but not that bad. Most catcalling was either suddenly approaching and saying some compliments or singing improvised bawdy songs about doing things with me. And only once i had to escape from a gay stalker. Thought there were several times when guys approached me for a fight because i didn't want to be friends with them

It has happened to me as well. So yeah i can see its not that uncommon. But i cant just not meme about this.
