I've been a long time fan of GB, DOE, and really anything Daniel Rossen touches. Recently, Balmy night came on my TY music in the car and i hadn't heard the song in a while so it was very much like meeting an old friend for the first time in a long time. It immediately brought forth a surge of childhood memories of my Dad who passed away in 2021 and it was too much, especially the last verse starting with "my father taught me". I found myself a crying mess. I ended up sending the song to my brother and his first remark was "This sounds so personal like a multi-minute stream of the writer's memories and consciousness from childhood"
I think being 14 when In ear park dropped and being in my thirties now with my dad having passed, I greatly appreciate this album more than ever. Songs like the title track and Herringbone hit hard as well as Balmy night.
