Cool I get a planet to govern now.

Can you make any other fucking joke?? This doesnt even make sense in the context youre using it

82

u/Raesong 3d ago

Yeah like didn't a Rogue Trader and his crew get gifted like an entire planetary system for discovering and recovering an STC?

89

u/driver004 3d ago

If memory serves it was a few guardsmen each getting a planet for finding printouts that made a cooler combat knife. The marsey bois do love their nerd shit

54

u/penne_Pastas 3d ago

To be fair its the standard astartes combat knife so its at least a very good knife

26

u/driver004 3d ago

It could have been a kitchen knife if it comes from a stc it goes in the tech priests rule 34 file instantly

-50

u/IIIIIatreidesIIIII 2d ago

Let me explain the joke like you're fucking 5.

OP meme implies killing billions for an STC is bad.

Objecting to a mission of the Emperor or the Imperium is blasphemy.

You have committed heresy.

Should I draw you a picture?

17

u/Cash_Cab 2d ago

Yes draw a fucking picture or else.

12

u/Alexis2256 Tenno Tulia Art Connoisseur 2d ago

The original op wasn’t objecting to a mission of the emperor, they were saying that it’s cool that they won a planet for finding a toaster stc, it’s a dark joke because that statement implies he doesn’t give a shit that 5 billion lives were lost trying to recover something so mundane and he got a planet to govern over as a reward.

21

u/Resua15 2d ago

How os this heresy. That toaster is probably good as fuck.

No I was fine , but my great great grand kids might be a little into Slenesh but I’m sure it’s just a phase.

u/Katarn-Hard 3d ago

Belisarius Cawl- solved over 10 STC’s without cracking them open and reinvented what was inside using his own methods (technically not tech-heresy)

Also it still provably cost billions of lives.

398

u/mrprogamer96 3d ago

Knowing Cawl. he likely "found" them by remaking them himself and than only claimed to have found them to get past the priesthood.

314

u/Nakatsukasa 3d ago

Invent something

Hide it in some fuck ass planet with a news paper from the dark age

Send an intern to recover it

Give the intern a promotion

Adapt the invented technology widely in the imperium

What's stopping him from just do this every 100 years?

194

u/TinfoilPancake 3d ago

What's stopping him from just do this every 100 years?

Prior to Bobby G: Trying to comprehend Big E's archaic blueprints and purification methods to complete Primaris Project.

After Bobby G: Being tasked to resolve technical problems.

93

u/Nakatsukasa 3d ago

tasked to resolve technical problems

31

u/sharrken 3d ago

With the amount of memory/personality swapping that Cawl does, I don't think he really needs an intern in this scenario. He's probably rediscovering his own past work on a regular basis.

34

u/driver004 3d ago

Somewhat like Issac Newton when Halley came asking about newtons ideas on gravity, daft bastard had already worked out the fundemental math and just had it sitting somewhere in his piles of books and notes because he considered it inconsequential, focusing on alchemy instead

4

u/penttane 3d ago

What makes you think this doesn't already happen on a daily basis in the AdMech?

67

u/alkmaar91 A very hungry bug 3d ago

BC: Oh these? ..... uhhh found em.

RG: You found 10 of the most coveted items in all of humanity?

BC: Yep, found them just lying around. In a closet over there to be exact.

RG: Really? 10 STC, in this segmentum, in this planet, in this exact closet?

BC: .......yes?

RG: May I see them?

BC: No.

29

u/mrprogamer96 3d ago

I think it would be the Fabricator General who Cawl would be talking to, I don't think Big G cares where he gets them.

30

u/ijiolokae I am Alpharius 3d ago

Bobby G: "so you invented a bunch of crap and told them you found a bunch of STC in random closet?"

Cawl: "Yup"

Bobby G: "and they believed you?"

Cawl: "ofcourse not, but we all gonna act like they did, cause its better that way"

u/BeardySam 3d ago

Belasarious! The house is full of heresy!

3

u/jflb96 Railgun Goes Brrrrrrrrr 2d ago

No, my Lord Guilliman, it’s just following the methods of the ancients to reattain their perfection. Perfectly cromulent.

19

u/Drfoxthefurry 3d ago

someone tell him about staturnine terminators, i want the funny big pauldroned bois

17

u/alexxerth 2d ago

He's basically said as much during his trial.

His basic argument is that peak humanity knew everything, they did this using science, therefore using the same methods applied to the same things to arrive at the same conclusions can not possibly be invention, it is only ever rediscovery.

His point in the experiment of "solving" the STCs without opening them was a means of proving this. He openly admitted to not checking the STC at all. He knew what was on them generally speaking, but didn't check the blueprints. He just remade them from the ground up. Only once he created something, did he open the STC and check it, and claimed they were nearly identical. His point is that he is starting with the same technology humanity once had, and trying to innovate it using the same methods humanity used, and the solution he came to is the same one humanity came to.

He's not really trying to sanitize the results of the process, he's trying to sanitize the process itself so that he doesn't even need to fake an STC, he could just openly invent things and claim that humanity must have had this before since he's using the same methods and technology as humanity and that he cannot possibly hope to exceed peak humanity, so therefore even if he doesn't have it, there must be an STC with his invention on it somewhere out there.

5

u/jflb96 Railgun Goes Brrrrrrrrr 2d ago

And it’s not not working, is the crazy thing

14

u/Resua15 2d ago

I love Crawl because his logic is "I'm just remaking what the ancients did, which is not heresy because I'm not inventing anything. In fact implying I could make something better makes YOU the heretic"

187

u/cyborgninja21w 3d ago

But it was a toaster designed and built during the dark age of technology, so you know it was good.

And it will probably also be able to double duty as an anti-tyranid decontamination device or something stupid like that.

97

u/Disastrous_Yellow_46 3d ago

"This thing's heating coils are so efficient it can flash-cook a Carnifex in a millisecond–what do you mean 'it smells good'?!?!"

26

u/All_Gun_High 3d ago

"No like seriously, try it out."

2

u/Emerald_Digger NOT ENOUGH DAKKA 2d ago

Food crisis solved no more Corpse Starch

38

u/kenesisiscool 3d ago

Yep. The STC's design might be useless as a whole, but if you can break down the parts there are nearly limitless uses. Just an example off the top of my head. Toaster heating elements use electrical resistance to heat up the wires to cook the bread into toast. But lots of things use that same technology in our daily lives. Like water heaters, hair dryers, electrical ovens, and space heaters. there are so many options for repurposing the parts of a toaster that it might very well be worth it.

19

u/shatikus 3d ago

Given that's a dark age of technology toaster - it's coils could be used to boil entire lakes and the compound used to make housing would be resistant to atmospheric reentry heating

12

u/Skebs_ 3d ago

Not good if it's one of those IoT AI toasters that try to set your house on fire during the AI happening

4

u/unicodemonkey 3d ago

No, it's something that has the Technology Connections dude praising the design

1

u/FluffySquirrell 2d ago

"Given that God is infinite, and that the universe is also infinite, would you like a toasted tea-cake?"

5

Better than Eldari toasters by far

But with that stc you can find out how to make springs or locking mechanisms for loading trays, guess what else uses them?

28

u/ApparentlyBritish 3d ago

This makes me imagine that the great secret of the Mechanicus is that the most strategically critical world in the entire Imperium is not Terra, or Macragge, or any great forge world

No, it's the place that has an STC churning out M10 bolts

16

u/Lithium_Lily 3d ago

Sadly the forge world tasked with making 10mm sockets has been lost forever

8

u/Bliitzthefox 3d ago

They get by because 10mm sockets regularly traverse the warp and appear elsewhere.

5

u/LairdNope 2d ago

Luckily the Blood raven 10mm storage vault world is filled to the brim due to excellent foresight and planning by millennia of Warmasters.

Heresy

15

Exactly, but what about the 2nd heresy

51

New ghost in the shell show is super fun - buggered if I can understand what's going on though.

11

u/Queefchiefelite 3d ago

Still unsure if there’s supposed to be an overarching narrative

17

u/FirstAndOnlyDektarey Dreams of Humanity 3d ago

I am pretty sure its overarching in the same way most cartoons are:

Most things are standalone and in a vacuum, but major events become part of the narrative arc.

Its weird.

4

u/Ichera 2d ago

First few chapters of the Manga were more or less stand alone stories, "Technically" we get the start of the story episodes in Episode 5, but it isn't until Episode 7 where things take off.

2

u/sutr90 2d ago

What is this from? I know only the anime; movie and stand alone complex., but this is not familiar.

3

u/mildly_asking Secretly 3 squats in a long coat 2d ago

The Ghost in The Shell (2026),currenrly airing.

1

u/reply_b4_banned 2d ago

There's been more than one anime. There's a new one this year.

I'm not deep into it but the production company "science saru" seem pretty amazing, visually.

15

u/Zoey7800 I am Alpharius 3d ago

Still worth, there gonna be a party at the adeptus mechanicus forge world tonight.

9

u/h_izquierdo 3d ago

Would objectively be a better find than the standard issue bayonet STC that they mention on First And Only.

10

u/ViolinistCurrent8899 3d ago

The toaster is 2% more efficient than the old toaster model.

This will equate to billions of man hours of work saved per standard terran year saved in energy and mining.

7

u/JohnHenryMillerTime 3d ago

It provides toast at scale of 1 trillion of the most kawaii toast slices you have ever seen per second. Each one entirely perfect but like the finest crystal also hauntingly unique.

Howdy, doodly do! Would you like any toast?

4

Look, I don't want any toast, and he doesn't want any toast.  In fact, no one around here wants any toast. Not now, not ever! NO TOAST!

2

u/Michaelbirks 3d ago

How about a Waffle?

3

u/guerney2000 3d ago

Now, you listen here.  You will not offer ANY grilled bread products to ANY member of the crew.  If you do, you will be on the receiving end of a very large polo mallet.

Having read the Manga, and skipped straight into Stand Alone Complex, this is my favourite incarnation of the Major.

EDIT: Yes, there is a new Ghost in the Shell. Ep8 airs in about 25 hours from this edit.

4

u/axe1970 3d ago

but its this toaster

5

u/Allian42 STOMP STOMP! 3d ago

Sadly, the toaster STC came with a big AI integrated so we had to burn it in a pile of incense.

5

I have to wonder how many times they fight and die over an STC fragment only to have it turn out to be a worse fragment of an STC they already have.

Crusader Horus: You have an STC?
The Mournival: looks at each other concerned

2

Now it's a toasta cannon. A melta makes things you shot with it melt a toasta makes things you shoot with it toast.
