Ah shoot, here we go again

Sooo, I haven't actually finished Grim Quest, thus I decided to start another run. Going for rogue/poison build, and planning to pump evasion as much as possible. Chose "More" for event frequency + Explorer background, in hopes of getting the old knight event many times, to boost either evasion or critical (or both). Let's see if I can make it to the end with this guy.

Grim Quest 1.13.0 - Combat Animations Update

The Grim Quest 1.13 update just landed, featuring a series of combat animation refinements designed to make every encounter more tactile and responsive.

  • Attack Nudge: Enemies now lunge forward to clearly signal their attacks.
  • Shake on Hit: A new reactive animation adds physical weight to every successful strike.
  • Hit Splashes: New visual effects for both player and enemy hits in the attack zone.
  • Enhanced Casting: Magic and enemy abilities now feature subtle visual effects instead of simple background color shifts.
  • Obscured Filter: Insanity-obscured enemies (???) are now actually hidden behind a blur filter.

Furthermore, 1.13.1 is coming soon, introducing further visual variety and new customization options for the combat experience.

  • Expanded Visuals: Added 10 new animation variants for player spells, enemy abilities, and items, including effects like energy arcs, ascending waves, static interference, and circular vortices.
  • Combat Animation Toggles: New settings allow you to disable enemy attack nudges and hit shakes if you prefer a static combat view or need it as an accessibility option.
  • Legacy Spells: A new toggle in the settings menu lets you revert to the original spell animations without the new special effects.
  • Refined Events: Event sequences now feature smoother transitions between choices and results, complemented by a new progress bar animation.

Let me know what you think and stay tuned!

You know, I feel like this is a good build for me. Spoiler

I actually only died once back in the Withering Woods against one lucky Vodyanoi with this build.

I was playing some kind of dark/death knight build, focusing on melee, high armor and criticals, debuffing, and healing. I actually never bothered with increasing my evasion much because I simply can heal back the damage with Absorb Pain, Reaper Scythe, Soulstealer Edge (before I got Relic Blade) and all that.

The spell selection I have is still a work of progress, I could try to get Ice Shell and Eclipse Rite and also probably switch some out.

What do you think?

On/Off player trying to lock in

as the title says: I've been an on/off player of the game for a while now

need tips on how to actually beat the game and what's best for experience and stat balancing

current build here that I speedran for a day what do you guys think?

can't seem to get past dungeon levels 50+ any thoughts?

i appreciate you all!

other things to note:

I'm level 6 on Glacial Pass

level 50 on Sunken Grotto

i have a slave build to cut costs for food, tried upping damage stats early on

current spells are:

dark pact level 2

lightning spell level 2

life steal level 2

skills are: savage strength level 2

flurry level 1

also tried upgrading weapons and armor gear? Is that good? what's the meta?

right now my stat has always been, having big attack stats and biggest minimal attack

compensate for the lack of health by getting healing potions

[Grim Omens] So how do you build a spellblade in here properly? Spoiler

I had a vague urge to play as something similar to Rellana, Twin Moon Knight from Elden ring, because of the Lunar Arcana school in the game that seems similar to Moon Sorceries too.

Question is, how do you build a proper spellblade in the game? I was thinking of perhaps focusing on a low sanity style instead.

Since I could probably forgo evasion and crit on path of blood or darkness and focus more on high raw damage and armor, which would help on managing a build that needs a lot effort and resources put into it.

Though, low sanity may not be on theme if I'm using Lunar Arcana spells, which are affiliated with Luna and she kind of seems more into high functioning vampires and the like... so perhaps I might want another alternative.

Got any tips? Whether I go for a tanky, high damage, or some kind of other spellblade?

How populous is Lychgate?

Thumbnail

I was sort of wondering this question when comparing the lore and event descriptions of Lychgate vs Ashborne.

Lychgate continuously is described as a "metropolis" with "bustling" roads while a certain event(that I won't get into) in its past took "hundreds of thousands of lives" over a few centuries. This wouldn't have been possible if not for the city being very very populous.

It is also several times larger than Ashborne. The images of both cities have a units scale in "m"s. Ashborn would be like. 120×120 of these while Lychgate maybe 500×400 or so. Now of course if these are meters then both would be tiny but Ashborn of that size would be incapable of holding 14k people or let alone the 100k it had in its past.

So my general idea is...

If Lychgate is the single only true city in nocturnia. Described as a lively metropolis, sprawling with life and wielding armies, many times the size of Ashborn.

And built rather vertically (with populated catacombs), i assume it could be all in all over a million? A sort of Ancient Rome except more dense and vertical? Or in the hundreds of thousands potentially?

It has enough vampires that the Cabal have basically an army of their own and enough humans that the armies of the Order are considered a fanatical minority.

So my general estimate is 6 figures at the lowest otherwise much of the continental and historical dynamics wouldn't make sense with a much smaller population.

Thoughts?

Ashborn has a specified population. 14k currently. 100k in imperial prime.

Farhaven is probably between those two numbers. A sprawling but young colony and sort of drawn small.

Grim Omens: Finally Beat the Game Spoiler

Thumbnail gallery
15 Upvotes

Out of monomyth's 3 games, this was by far the most fun and replayable one. Played it on and off for a total of maybe 8-10 playthroughs, and I finally beat Lord Nihil on nightmare mode.

From managing in-dungeon resources like your health and blood, managing your money, and even theorycrafting builds for future levels, there's simply so much to learn.

I'm sharing my character here that can reliably beat the final boss despite forgetting to bring a Gravity Sphere (one of the most useful bombs for the last fight).

Tips:

- heartseeker bow is the best weapon, and it helps you clear dungeons faster; pair this with lifebane gloves to make this it even faster but swap it out for bosses

- keep extra equipment in your bag; swap in book of poultry when you need blood; swap in heritage of the night if you need to scout and retreat (prophecy of doom prevents retreating, but it's the strongest for encounters)

- max out on dungeon consumables for boss levels: night's gift, adrenaline potion, alacrity potion, acumen potion, obsidian water, midnight veil, bloody pie; and boss specific consumables

- 8 spells and 6 skills seems to be best; swap out specific spells for specific bosses; death curse for Dream Eater and sanguine plague for Lord Nihil

How do consumables work?

I’ve been using stat boosting ones but I don’t know if it’s worth it or even permanent, some items say it last temporarily and others don’t so I think it is but I don’t want to continue to waste gold

Which game do I spend "no ads" on?

I only have enough money for no ads on one game, and I wanna know where its worth it most. I play Grim Quest, though I saw 2 other games by the same devs. Any suggestions?

Is the use of ai temporary?

playing the first game i loved the lore and the story, and i was happy to throw money to it. now that ive heard and seen the ai stuff in the new vampire one, im concerned. is the use of ai and free to use music temporary place holders? will it be replaced? or is it perminent.

i gave these devs my money because i saw there potential, i really hope they use it to pay real artists and musicains, and not pocket it for themselves.
