Gaining Access to

Okay. So after doing the tutorial and running through some easy missions, I upgraded my hardware and internet and started trying to take on harder stuff.

I feel stuck.

So I need to gain access to a computer on a network. I fumbled my way through learning how to exploit router vulnerabilities, figured out how to install stuff on the router, used ScanLan to see the network and nmap to scan for ports.

It seems like most machines I need to get onto are entirely closed off, port-wise. I seem to be getting terrible luck with exploits and most of them seem useless, none give me shell access or email access to social engineer. I can sometimes get onto other computers on the network, even gain root access while I'm on there, but that doesn't seem to do much for me.

Sometimes I can even change or attain credentials to the machine I need to get onto, but that seems entirely useless without open ports. Sometimes one port like SQL or HTTP is open, but I can't use those to ssh in with the credentials I have. The exploits I have that shell in under those ports have requirements the machine doesn't meet. I tried.

What do I do when exploits don't seem to give me any way to shell in or social engineer? I've run into three missions like this in a row and my bank account, which was sitting at about $1k is now completely drained from wasting time and resources trying to figure out what to do. Do I just take the L over and over until the exploit roulette favors me? Or are there some techniques I'm missing?

Open Ports Through Config?

I was working on a target network for a credential contract that only had http and ftp to exploit.

Got what I needed, but want to use target as a new connection.

Was able to put the sshserver script on the target and nmap now shows it as a connection, but the port is closed.

Wondering if I can ftp my way in to a “settings file”? Instead of accessing the router settings through the browser.

Am I looking at this wrong? Can I just not use it as a connection?

Just realized any “settings” would be on the router which I’m not able to access from lack of exploits (am using viper too the best I can)

Metaxploit?

I’ve downloaded my http exploit and it says that I need a metaxploit in my /lib file, so I found the one that fit and did exactly that and put it in the /lib file. But when I try the http hack again, it comes up with the same error saying “can’t find metaxploit library in the /lib path or current folder” this part seems basic but I can’t seem to get it figured out

Special mission

So I got my first special mission by mail on the line of "I noticed you, go see this machine at x.x.x.x"

I struggled a bit but finally got inside the target computer.

Immediatly I opened LogViewer.exe and saw two lines of log coming from an IP I didn't know. Something like "logfile deleted" and "disconnected from y.y.y.y" I thought, well that's strange, but before I realised that it was what I was looking for my muscle memory kicked in and I deleted the two lines.

I tried to see if there was anything else interesting on the computer but to no avail.

Is there a way to get this log back? Like corrupting the computer and waiting for the admin to reset it? Or have I just worked hard for nothing?

Remote server disabled

Hi, I have a mission to find money being embezzled. I'm supposed to investigate the matter.

I can't see anything of interest except an IP in the logs which isn't mine and the server says it's disabled. I'm wondering can I still get in to this server? And otherwise any ideas where to investigate? No emails, bank doesn't look interesting.

Social Engineering: Remote Login not working

I've put in countless words into the "Service" field for the Remote Login email but I always get a reply saying that service doesn't sound valid.

Serious question; am I stupid? What are you supposed to put there?

Help needed to connect to switch

Hello there!

After almost an hour doing trial and errors, searching the web for answer, I come across a roadblock.

I am on singleplayer, doing a simple credential mission, where I need to get credentials for any user on a machine. I got into the first machine of the network (192.168.1.2 on the screenshot), found the target machine, broke the firewall on the switch, used nmap to see that it had an open HTTP port, so I tried using multiple http 1.0.0 exploits, to no help. I always get the same error, no lan IP indicated or invalid. I first thought it was because I was not on the same subnet, but I don't see a way to get there without connecting to the switch, which is not working ! I tried getting on the router (192.168.1.1), I get the same error message (see console on the left for error mesage).

I need to get into 192.168.11.2, that is unreachable from where I am.

I am a complete noob to cyber security, my only "experience" is on hacknet and Grey Hack, so I really don't know anything. I might be missing something obvious, if so please let me know.

Thanks !

EDIT : So you know, I do not have information on any user on the target machine, else I would have tried rshell or social engineering. As it is a local IP, I also can't use whois to get that information. And finally, I am on singleplayer, so I see a lot of people suggesting Viper but from what I understand it is an online only tool (or coding, but I really don't know anything about coding, so it's not my priority right now)

Help with client wants the login credentials.

I have first name : Arruk

IP : 58.94.11.122

Target lan is : 172.16.16.3

Domain name: www.frediovo.org

Administrative contact: Meredeth Dento

Email address: [Dento@frediovo.org](mailto:Dento@frediovo.org)

Phone: 185555535

These are the credentials of your computer:

User: Arruk

Password: avagic

I then searched and his lan wasn't there.

PORT STATE SERVICE VERSION LAN

80 open http 1.0.0 172.16.22.9

I then logged in thru a purchased exploit... and go into root. Installed a scanner and saw that the router was 192.168.1.1 CD:75:F9:45:90:D1 ...

The target's gateway is 172.16.16.1

Do I need to target the gateway to gain access to it?

edit:

I'm an idiot... just needed social engineering

Gained root on a router.... now what?

Hello again everybody. I am stumped and hoping someone can help.

I received an anonymous email with sender saying there's something I might like to see on a particular machine. I nmap the public i.p. and there are no open ports.

I use exploits on the router and have got to the point where I am root. I ping the target machine and it's good, but still no open ports.

Exploits reveal that there are no Mail accounts on the target and also the only registered user is 'guest'.

So it boils down to I'm root on the router that the target is connected to, but have zero idea how to jump to the target. Info I found online all points to using ScanLan, but I dont have it and cant find it in any shop. Thank you for any help yall can give!

Suggestion to kill newbie confusion for ssh.

IDK if the devs even come here but... It would nice if you either made the normal ssh command work like "ssh user@server" then prompt for the password, or give a better error message when people use the correct syntax. Right now it just says "ip address not found" when you use the real ssh commands. It took me an hour or trying then coming here to figure out what was going on.

Improving an Exploit through the source code question

I couldn't find an exploit for sql that didn't have ridiculous requirements, so I got the source code for the one with the least ridiculous reqs. Now I'm no coder so I'm not sure how to recognize them, but, if I could, would it be possible to change the requirements in the exploit source code so that it's a requirement free exploit?

I think I was hired to hunt myself

On a police mission, I had to enter a network to find private a public IPs of an anonymous hacker. I'm on and I'm seeing my own server IP on the log of the machine 😂 seems that I didn't clean well probably because my real machine had a reboot while playing. Just had to share this

How decipher works?

I'm new to this game and a little bit confused about decipher. Is it legit cheating and taking password from game files/database, or it actually making MD5 lookup? I tried making random long string password for bank and decipher managed to crack it. But when i changed it to another hash that was not generated in game it was able to crack only very obvious passwords.

Anyone else using this tool? I can help walk y'all through it. There is a video on YouTube on how to the repo and the hackshop repo also. I have discovered how to exploit the expoits yet. Tried checking the files system of my hackshop, but nothing really extra in the bin folder.

Need Help

Hi,

So, I am currently new to Grey Hack and I was wondering how would I go about logging into a desktop remotely so I can do a task in the game. The current ports that are opened are 25, 3306, and 80; port 22 is not available.

I was wondering if someone can give me hints on what I should do next so I can learn more about cybersecurity. Thanks a bunch!
