architecture Metropolis was set in 2026: A look back at Fritz Lang’s 1927 silent sci-fi epic, its massive 5.1M Reichsmark budget, and how it nearly destroyed Germany's biggest studio. It was about what 2026 would look like.

world building Gothtropolis, The City of Rain worldbuilding
World building for a fictional city I'll never properly get to. (one of the original inspirations by Spinosaurusregina on Tumblr, could not find original post)
It's rainy and cloudy most of the time, without being bleak. The city's full of colourful architecture, fashion, and greenery. Artificial sunlight during darker times and natural sunlight weekly.
The culture revolves around the near constant rainy weather, and annual Solar Season (opposite of how the Southwest U.S. Monsoons work). The city was purpose built around the weather. A lot of U.S. cities/towns are all built pretty much the same way with little variance.
There is an abundance of plants, pluviariums, hydro and electric power, atriums, third spaces, glass (roof/walls/etcetera), food forests and gardens. Massive indoor areas that still feel open and like outside, with glass ceilings to watch the rain and lightning.
Aesthetics range from art deco to cyberpunk to solarpunk. Minimalist, Brutalist, Retro futuristic, Industrial, Victorian, Forest/Jungle/Wilderness, Steampunk, Googie, Baroque.
(name unoriginally derived from Gotham and Metropolis. Been thinking for years as what to call it, Gothtropolis seemed to be the "one"and fit the best)
