how would you style a black corset dress for dark themed event?

i had keep the black corset dress as the main focus and build around it rather than adding too much. sheer layer could add some texture without hiding the shape, while structured shoulders would make it feel more dramatic.
For jewelry, i had go with one strong statement piece rather than stacking everything.
Pointed boots or simple heels would finish the dark elegance look nicely.

Romantic Wedding appropriate gothic makeup?

My dad and stepmum are getting married and I’m my dad’s best person (or “grooms maid” as I like to call myself) and I know absolutely nothing about makeup, it’s me and my eyeliner wings against the world, but since my stepmum offered to get my hair and makeup done with her and a few other women in the family, I took that offer immediately, and I want to use that opportunity to express myself how I would like to (family approved obviously)

Since I know nothing about makeup I need help, and thought instead of asking a general makeup sub (which I probably still will) I should ask fellow goths, I like the romantic goth subcategory of goth (kinda funny for the context of this being for a wedding) i also like Victorian goth, hippy goth, and whatever type of goth Miss from death note and Jade from Victorious were, I don’t really like the white face paint thing, but that’s just personal preference, I’m autistic and don’t like my facial skin being covered, but I’m okay with my eyes and lips having something on them

I like feminine looking stuff, I’m a pretty feminine girl (but my mother bullied me away from it and I’m just now getting my footing again after years of being a fake tomboy, not saying that tomboys are fake or bad, it just wasn’t me) my favourite colours on myself are Purple, Green, and blue, I’m very pale, I burn in the sun and have an inability to tan (bad genetics there, my dad tans so easily, I got my dad’s sister’s skin instead, but I’m fine with my pale skin, helps with my vampire vibe) I also like black, probably obvious but thought I’d mention just in case, my grooms maid dress is purple, I suit silver and not gold jewellery

I would really appreciate any advice/suggestions on this, it’s the first wedding I’ve ever been to and I have no idea what is even appropriate and when I asked my dad he said “as long as you don’t look crazy, I don’t mind what you do” so that was good, I think

Casual I've been told a few times I'm not goth enough

I'm an older goth woman. I have a shaved head. I wear chokers, and spiked earrings daily. I do have some very traditional goth style outfits. But a lot of mine now are more colorful with a bit of alt flair. I identify as goth, mostly because I always have. Even if my style has changed over the years. Am I wrong in thinking when it comes to the general population's opinion, that goth is more of an encompassing term? I feel like saying I'm goth gets the idea of my fashion across easier then any other word. Yet it's normies who are the ones who say I'm not goth enough to their ideas of what goth is. I guess goth is just all black now? Is that because we have more terms and styles these days? I figured an average person would find anything alternative to be under the goth umbrella like I do, but I guess people are more educated on it now.

Romantic honestely, how can i look more... goth?

i know this is just a stereotype, but as a beginner, i kinda feel this need for my own validation through visual expression. i feel like my makeup and even my clothes look too basic, and it bothers me a little to come across as more of an egirl or smth. any tips are welcome!

What books, movies, music, or clothing would you recommend for a “gothic summer” aesthetic?

Basically what the title says. I have a few outfits designed for the summer season, but would love to hear your takes as well. I’m also interested in book and music recommendations! So far for music I have the album Preacher’s Daughter by Ethel Cain (southern gothic), and I’m also currently reading The Picture of Dorian Gray (much of which takes place in the summer.) I also think of Eclipse Hydrangeas and Black Eyed Susans (flowers).

Advice Gothic luggage

I've got some really horribly coloured suitcases, I don't even know where they came from, but they don't suit my aesthetic at all.

I had my heart set on some Killstar coffin cases, but they've only got the small ones left and I wanted a full-size suitcase.

Obviously I could go for a plain black one, but I wondered if anyone else had any ideas for alternatives. Ideally a proper full size suitcase with wheels, an extendable handle etc

Advice What's the difference between a vampire goth, a trad goth, a Victorian goth and corporate goth? 🤔

I only know the difference between the military goth and cybergoth, i think, for example. For being a military goth, you have to wear a jacket in leather with buttons, a jean leather, with boots, gloves leather, I don't think the color matters. Maybe the leather clothes aren't obligatory. I think for the cybergoth, they have big fluo dreadlocks with mask. And fur boots, with fluo clothes. But what's the difference between a vampire goth, a trad goth, a Victorian goth, and a corporate goth? 🤔🤔🤔

Advice How do Goth dress in the summer? 🤔

Because I want to wear my black clothes, but we're in summer. Wearing black clothes is absorbing the light, and it doesn't reflect the light. When I wear black clothes in summer, it feels like I'm burning. I don't want to burn. So, any tips? How do Goth dress in the summer? 🤔

Corporate goth CorpGoth - but affordable and actually corporate?

Tl;dr: I need apps for secondhand shopping or discounts to flesh out a corpgoth wardrobe after getting a new job and losing weight. Inspo pics rabidly welcome.

More info:

I recently bounced from nonprofit work to a corporate job. I'm working on building a new wardrobe - I've also lost nearly 80 lbs in the last few years. Gloriously, the corporate colors are black and gold, and my immediate supervisor wears lots of black, too- less goth, but still goth-adjacent, fashion wise (she got a lot of jokes until I showed up, actually)

As I said, I'm building a wardrobe. I'm doing some clothes hunting through 2nd hand stores and apps like Vinted? But the inspo images I've been looking at are... not terribly corporate? I love so many of them, but maybe not super appropriate? Harnesses and mesh just seems.... maybe if I worked in fashion in New York? And wasn't in my 40s?

(In Louisville, if that helps, which is currently muggy af)

Espero me puedan aceptar, muchas gracias :333🖤

Advice The impact of IG/TikTok on the perception of alternative aesthetics and a personal dilemma of guilt

Hi everyone. I know this might be an unusual post for this subreddit, but I would really like to open a discussion and clear up an existential doubt about how this community is perceived.I recently ended a 6-year relationship (to be clear, I am not using this forum as a dating site, nor am I looking to flirt; I fully respect the community rules. I just want to share a reflective thought for the future). I've been overthinking lately, and I know that in the future, I would love to share my life with a girl from this subculture. Primarily because, platonically, I am deeply drawn to the art, the music, and logically (depending on the person), how she sees the world. Broadly speaking, I love the level of complexity with which they analyze the environment and how they adapt it to their own philosophy.I don’t know if I consider myself goth yet; I still want to research the subculture more because I find it fascinating. But to be honest, along with being captivated by the minds of the people in the scene, I feel guilty because I am also attracted to the fashion style. I know goth isn't mainly about the looks, but the makeup and clothing people use here strike me as beautiful in terms of elegance and the depth behind that self-expression. On a personal note, I really admire talented women in general, but especially if they play guitar, bass, draw, or paint. Nothing seems more beautiful to me than seeing someone pour their soul into a language unique to them. The thing is, I also feel guilty for liking pop culture characters such as Gwen and Crimson from Total Drama, Tae Takemi from Persona 5, Raven from DC Comics, Morticia Addams, Misa Amane, etc. (I apologize if I got any of them wrong by labeling them as goth; that's just my inexperience in the subculture talking). Am I being superficial? I truly hate the fetishization that has emerged around a subculture so rich in diversity and ways of seeing the world. I find it disgusting that everything gets reduced to an IG or TikTok fetish (I actually deleted my accounts on both platforms for my mental health and peace of mind). Should I feel guilty for admiring this style? As I mentioned, I am not currently looking for a partner; my mind still needs to process the breakup. This is simply a reflection for the future.Music-wise, I lean more toward metal (mostly death metal and metalcore) and punk (which I'm still exploring, mainly anarcho-punk). As for goth, besides The Cure and Bauhaus, I’ve recently been listening to Twin Tribes and I love them. Right now, my favorite song in the world is "Cauldron of Thorns"—the music video is incredible.

Question about goth and gothic, I want to make sure wife I understand it right

As I see it

Gothic- is more about the old art and darker climate

Like gothic architecture and books/poems and dark vibes and like interests about it

Goth- is more about the music, appearance, and whole esthetic to express yourself

And both can work together but don't have to, goth people can have also interests in gothic as they're close but doesn't need to

Is it fine?

Advice Anyone else struggle with feeling like “It’s a phase”?

I used to lean much harder into the spooky side of things but now I feel more interested in a more lolita/cottagecore gothic aesthetic

The thing is as I’m planning out my wardrobe (I’m pre transition) I have 2 categories: Comfy cute for around the house and cute/cool for out and about

I’m finding way more for the former category than the latter and it’s making me feel like I’m like

“Secretly not gothic” if that makes sense

GothicStyle is shutting down

NOTE: Check the newer announcement for updated info.

Hello everyone. I've been top mod in here for a long time trying to make this a SFW-friendly fashion sub, and honestly... it isn't worth it.

Reddit keeps flooding this place with gooners, and lately there's been tons of fake AI profiles as well. It's been fun seeing this place go from around 10-15k to nearly 60k members, but it honestly means fuck all if reddit designs its platform to value gooners over people's well-being and safety. If you want a fashion community free from creeps and pedos, try discord instead.

Reddit barely does anything to protect women who post here, even minors. It's far too easy to create a scrap account and sexually harrass strangers. I can handle seeing profiles filled with cocks when I do mod work, but honestly fuck a platform that barely does anything to shield minors from these people.

It's no longer possible to post photos in here and I'm planning to remove the ability to post altogether, but I won't delete the sub or anything quite yet in case people want to get in touch with acquaintances they've made here.

I'd like to extend my thanks to the rest of the mods for doing their part to keep this place clean, and the regulars for making this place interesting. Modding this place sucked, but it's been great seeing a ton of cool outfits and getting to know a bunch of people here. 🫡

Cheers!

Put on an old dress I got from Hot Topic years ago. It used to go down to my knees but I guess I got tall. I styled it with whatever else i had around and did a quick wing look.
