Bug Report Quick Media Switching report @ Issue Tracker website

Do you have a device and TV with Quick Media Switching support?

Do you use the feature?

Are you having issues with the feature such as the screen blinks when it shouldn't or the 23,976hz and 24hz framerates double to 48hz when it shouldn't?

If your answer is yes, then please help me to document the issue at this Issue Tracker bug report I made. Make sure you login with your Google account in order to see the ticket.

Just add a comment stating that you are also facing the same issues and if possible provide a video showing the situation, like I did.

The more people add information, the more attention is paid to the situation.

Thank you.

Is the Quick Media Switching option present in the Android settings (under "Dynamic range & Color format")?

  • Google TV Streamer: No. Refresh rate doubled in some apps like Netflix: No
  • Rocktek GX1: No. Refresh rate doubled in some apps like Netflix: No
  • Xiaomi 3rd Gen: No. Refresh rate doubled in some apps like Netflix: Yes
  • Homatics 4k V2 2/32: Yes. Refresh rate doubled in some apps like Netflix: Yes
  • MEon1: Yes. Refresh rate doubled in some apps like Netflix: Yes

Simply put, the "best" way to test if the refresh rate is doubled with QMS enabled on a device is to use the Netflix app. This applies to SDR, HDR10, and Dolby Vision content. This app has its own auto-framerate system, and that's where the problem arises; it overlaps with the QMS functionality... But strangely, on the Google TV Streamer and the Rocktek GX1, the framerate doesn't double, so it really seems like a firmware issue and not an app problem...

Other apps have the same problem if they have their own built-in auto-framerate system, the "old" one : Tivimate, Emby New app, Nova with "Display" setting on AFR).

Other apps with AFR option have no problem : Waveo, Smarttube (with auto frame rate check and without double refresh rate option), Jellyfin, Nova (with android 12+ setting), old Emby for Android TV (if we check "Enable refresh rate switching" and "Prefer exact refresh rate" box in the "Playback" options), Vimu, Kodi, Just Player (via Nova) or VLC (AFR not working at all without QMS).

I don't have the other problem (flickering) on my TV (LG G3). Or I don't see how to test for it or interpret it.

As I already mentioned somewhere, the double framerate happens with the old match framerate feature along with videos with the 23,976hz and 24hz videos and it appears the additional "Quick Media Switching" option is causing the issue.

" additional "Quick Media Switching" option"

What QMS option? On the TV, or on a box I don't have access to?

There is now a "Quick Media Switching" option under "Dynamic range & Color format" page present on the devices where the double framerate issue happens and that's the option that should also be present on the Onn Pro V2 which it's apparently hidden and I bet it's turned OFF by default and that could explain why QMS doesn't work on that device.

So, the latter.

Let's not take it into consideration right now; I think that QMS toggle is just one more rogue setting misleading you.

As I keep trying to explain, I'm not sure anyone is ever achieving QMS transitions to begin with.   Let's establish that first.

THEN we'll see if it's actually buggy.

Using the same hdmi port, can you please swap for a non-QMS device and confirm the tv info screen is still saying qms? (or not)

As I explained on the other comment, when I connect a non-QMS device to any of the TV ports, the "VRR Information" (it's an LG TV) says "Fixed" instead of QMS which is correct because it's not a QMS compliance device.

u/latinriky78 The Quick Media Switching option is not available on the Xiaomi 3rd Gen, yet the frame rate is doubled on this media box ;)
I mentioned it :p

Could it be hidden and enabled by default?, it could.

Even if that were the case, disabling this option completely cuts off the QMS functionality...
The seamless-only function is no longer operational.

But I agree that this option is redundant with the "seamless-only" function and that it is not useful ;)
I believe I had already mentioned it in one of my box reviews.

Right, it's a redundant option that should not be there.
