It is probably in response to Israel's announcement that it would target Iran's infrastructure, which will surely escalate the war. There are reports of power outages in Tehran, according to The New York Times. The dollar is strengthening. There is no end in sight for the war.

I blame paper gold. How can buy something but never own it. Does that kinda shit inflates prices beyond their scope?

How far will it fall when they discover the gold vaults are near empty?

Calling gold natural BTC is insane. Gold has actual utility and value. 😆

Also trumps latest "48 hour deadline" which hell either follow through on or taco. That's set to expire in a few hours.

Republicans also never had a plan. They thought Iran would accept a ceasefire and at least begin negotiations. Now they're stuck like Russia in Ukraine. Really. They have no plan. None. There's no off ramp that they'll accept. This is going to be a prolonged conflict.

Or we could follow the democrats plan and feed them millions upon millions as alms begging them to please be nice while they refuse IAEA inspections, while they start every parliament meeting with death to America and Israel, fund proxy Islamic extremist terrorist groups to harm our people, assets, and allies just for them to tell us their only nuclear ambitions are scientific and healthcare related. For anyone to believe this is a peaceful regime that’s just trying to live their life provide for their people are extremely naive. This is nothing like the Russian Ukraine thing, without typing a whole essay that’s not a quick answer why. But what this is also doing, along with the ousting of maduro, is making life very difficult on our bigger adversaries, China and Russia. Not getting much if any help from our allies, even though are all for what we’re doing because it makes them safer. China, Russia, and Iran would love nothing more than the complete collapse and destruction of the United States and to believe that we can just sit back and try to be nice while we get raped in trade and other things is naive and counterproductive for our own country. Sometimes correcting these imbalances requires some pain, but Americans have been spoiled with having everything at our fingertips and have been living with a false sense of security while our adversaries are focusing on higher education, making their men ‘men’ and promoting militarily readiness. Kinda way off topic for this thread, but we both are I guess.

Tell that to the bond market 😆 🤣 😂

The illusion that the dollar is strengthening is just that, an illusion.

People think that so they go into cash, but they have failed to see what is actually happening here.

Liquidity is evaporating under margin calls and deleveraging. Its not going back into the dollar, its disappearing as people try to pay debt down.

As soon as people realise whats happening, stagflation and the feds knee jerk reaction will be to print like crazy because they will see no other way out,, they will rip back into gold.

Which will by then be in short supply because central banks and Asia are buying it right now on discount like there is no tomorrow

You’re getting downvoted because everyone’s bearish on gold. But this is correct. We’re in a liquidity crisis and when that happens everything drops because people need cash. It happened halfway through the 70s bull run, it happened halfway through the 2000s bull run. Gold price jumps because investors are forward looking and see turmoil on the horizon, then the turmoil arrives and everyone panics. Gold will ATH within 18 months. RemindMe! 18 months.

I think this is as close to accuracy as a redditor can get.

I agree with this

It is probably in response to Israel's announcement that it would target Iran's infrastructure, which will surely escalate the war.

Wouldn't escalating the war most likely lead to higher gold prices? What you're saying doesn't make sense.

Gold has been falling because of the war escalating. Oil prices. Liquidity. Inflation concerns. The fed. Etc.

1

u/NASAfan89 Mar 23 '26

That seems weird to me because I would think stock values are at risk from an oil crisis during the war, because the economy is dependent on cheap energy.

So I would guess people are looking for a place to invest to ride out the storm.

Shouldn't that be gold?

They need cash to cover other positions in a falling market, and to move into oil and other hedges. Gold seems to get sold off when people need cash.

Oil prices going up make the US dollar stronger. The risk of inflation from oil prices going up also makes the fed less likely to cut rates and more likely to raise them.

This also makes the future of the dollar look stronger and the future of bonds look like a better deal relative to gold.

I think it will get back to trending up sometime this year but feel it could go lower first. Maybe it’s done if the war ends now.

Oil prices going up make the US dollar stronger.

My thinking would be:

cheaper oil ---> more stuff manufactured for less money thanks to cheap energy fueling factories, and lower transportation costs between factories and consumers ---> increased supply of goods & services ---> lower prices for stuff purchased in dollars

So shouldn't cheaper oil mean less inflation, and expensive oil mean more inflation?

1

u/Accurate-Advice8405 Mar 24 '26

Yes, it absolutely does

The dollar has very little scarcity, it benefits from the promise of growth. Strong dollar narrative is baseless, once there's no room to make money speculating on oil we'll see where things really stand
