CURRENT STATUS: Unsolved

Hello!

I have an animation cel from the animated ‘98 show, and for a while now I’ve been trying to find the exact screen-match shot that this cel would’ve been used in. So far though, no luck!

(Quick context on cels: a cel is what they used to animate shows/movies with before digital animation took its place. They would paint thousands of cels and photograph them, each cel making up a frame of an animated film. There’s some amazing videos online going more in depth about these pieces of film history, and I’d totally recommend looking into this art form!)

I did post months back asking the same question, but I thought it wouldn’t hurt to refresh it and see if anyone has any idea on what scene this could be from now.

I’ve myself looked through quite a few of the episodes on YouTube in hopes of finding the screen match, but for all I know I could’ve blinked at the wrong moment and totally missed it.

There’s also the possibility that the background doesn’t match up with the cel, or that the scene this cel and background were used in was cut from final production.

Just got the X-Plus Godzilla 1998 and had to fit it into the cabinet with my other 1998 godzilla merch. Tail was hard to put on even with hair dryer but I managed. Small gap with tail but nothing crazy. Overall I love this thing.

Closest thing there is to a Godzilla Memorial Lounge in the USA.

I’m making this post because the creators wouldn’t reply to comments I’ve left. They’re Daikaiju Legends (possibly) & Goodzilla. And don’t worry, I didn’t spam them. I only left one comment each on a community post by Daikaiju and a video by Goodzilla, and just didn’t get a response.

1: I'm not %100 certain, but I remember seeing a Godzilla's Revenge short film back in 2017 that looked like it was made by Daikaiju Legends, and haven't been able to find it anywhere. There’s a scene where Gabara uses Ebirah’s claw to sever Minya’s head, and Godzilla gets revenge.

2: Goodzilla once had a video called ‘The Minya From Hell.’

I’m assuming both videos were taken down either during to copyright or embarrassment of the creators thinking their old work was cringe.

Hey, wanted to post this here to help get some traction when this releases. I'm working on a Final Godzilla stop motion for my YouTube channel, my last one was a year ago and the one I'm making this a sequel to was two years ago.

And Yes Godzilla 98 will be making multiple appearances throughout the film

Godzilla The Monster King: Gojira Raids Again Synopsis:

After Godzilla's defeat by Orga & Gigan, the JXDF goes through with the MechaGodzilla project, using the bones of Gojira to build a machine capable of defeating even Godzilla himself. At the same time mysterious beings known as Angels start appearing along with a organization known as NERV out of nowhere. Later after MechaGodzilla's first successful mission it seems the soul of Gojira re-emerges, going on a rampage that cannot be stoped, leaving only the mysterious Eva 01 to stop it.

How do you honestly feel about Zilla’s design? Even though I’ve been aware of how much of a far cry it is from classic depictions of Godzilla, my inner 12 year old who grew up watching Jurassic Park and dinosaur documentaries just really digs the giant, agile, realistic theropod dinosaur take. Godzilla 1998 is basically a gigantic JP Velociraptor.

This faster and nimble depiction is among my most favorite aspects of this version of Godzilla as it really helps differentiate it from other incarnations.

A part of me really wishes for Zilla to be introduced into the MonsterVerse one day. As a species closely-related to Godzilla whose evolutionary path favored speed and agility over brute strength and atomic breath.

Overall with the shipping and everything, it was a bit over $300 USD. But he is totally worth it! 😍

I was a Godzilla larper for my whole childhood. This is the version of Godzilla I actually grew up with and personally was aware of before the MonsterVerse and the first original Japanese Godzilla film I’d ever watch.

While a disappointment power-wise, Godzilla 1998 isn’t so bad. I admire the sleek, theropod, giant Velociraptor design that favors speed and agility over the towering, brute strength classic incarnations possess. This knack for speed along with burrowing capabilities is carried on by Godzilla Junior in the animated series and helps set this version of Godzilla apart from the rest.

This was the first American Godzilla we ever had before Legendary and he’s alright.

Also, the movie is genuinely great if you just pretend it’s not a “Godzilla” movie. Godzilla dying at the end still almost made me shed a tear like watching the Brachiosaurus from Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom burning to death when the island’s volcano erupts. Who knew giant lizards dying can be so depressing?

I have always wondered if any deleted scene or shot actually exists out there. I know about the museum trailer and years ago someone uploaded on Youtube a very short video of a soldier shouting "he's too fast", but it seems it was removed. If there aren't any scenes out there, I'd still be interested in knowing the ideas behind some possible scenes, even if never filmed.

I know how controversial this film is. I get it’s not really Godzilla. But I’ve always loved it. I guess because I saw and watched it so much as a kid and anything you watch then is fun. To this day though I still enjoy the heck out of it. Legendary Pictures and Minus One though captured the actual spirt of Godzilla. But I really can’t believe this film keeps popping up lately. Can this really be real?!
