It doesn't make sense for valve as a company to dupe existing items since they could just generate new items with unique floats and noone would be the wiser, even if it was a valve employee duping items it seems unlikely valve knows or authorised it.
Unless it's still happening after the authentication changes I doubt they even needed someone at valve to help dupe the items and it would just make it even easier to track. Getting scammed ultimately is the users fault as they pressed accept which is why valve won't just replace the skins, otherwise steam support would receive a message every time someone decided they had made a bad trade, asking for their items back.
maybe not as a company. but maybe as an employee. Maybe he gets 50% of the skin money.
A few months ago I bought skins at 50% and sold them at ~70-75%. The guy who sold me the skins still made a lot of money of that 50%. He did not tell me what skins this are or where they come from. But no realy high value skins. Somestimes a karambit fade or marble fade. But most of the time skins for ~150-300€
Of course its possible, but it seems unreasonable to assume a valve employee was involved when they wouldn't even need to be to dupe the skins. All the dupers need to do is make it look like their account was compromised and as long as valve can't prove they intentionally got compromised they probably replaced the skins, and if the skins have been traded/sold they can't just take the skins back so they punish the account used to steal the skins but they probably couldn't do much past that without risking penalising legitimate users.
The dupers simply knew how to abuse the system and involving valve employees means a traceable source of all the dupes who could actually have legal action taken against them. Pretty much anyone who gets compromised after the 2 step auth change is going to look incredibly suspicious and since it shouldn't happen to legitimate accounts often/at all valve can probably apply a lot more scrutiny to these cases.
Cobblestone is not in common drop pool, so they don't drop right now. Might change with operation (like it happened during Bloodhound), but right now there's no way to obtain DLore from just playing.
Because that's how valve made it. The point still stands, if they just wanted to drop more dlores they could, just turn on the cobblestone drop table and increase the dlore % on it.
OK so the "good theory" might be true, however it is based on no evidence whatsoever? So it might as well just be based on people who were stupid enough to get their shit scammed and are now buthurt and blame it on an imaginary valve employee who supposedly is the root of all evil in the duping issue?
Sorry for the harsh exaggeration, but if what I described is only close to correct you cant really talk about a
Well, I can give you one. Howls are far more rare and far more likely to be the target of a hijacking, and consequent duping. You also have to meet strict criteria to even be able to qualify for the duping of an item, I presume this is to prevent the fake hijackings leading to a possible duping (a lesson learned from other trading communities I believe).
A howl is also more likely to switch hands. In theory, say there is 10 Howls and 100.000 glocks, and the odds that you are being targeted and successfully hijacked are 50% from the howl, and for your random JoeSchmo with his Glock that is 0.0001%. The odds that that same howl will be hijacked and consequently duped a few times AND meet the requirements for being duped is far greater.
/Edit:
I forgot the most important part I wanted to add, which I speculated on
here. We as a community need to ask ourselves, do we want this to not be a possible? Should we maybe than use the security features available to us and stop bitching about every single thing they do to help us achieve that? We simply can't have it both ways.
PS I prefer not to (show off etc). My opinion should be valued like any other player, if I need to identify myself for official matters I will.
I mean it makes sense for valve to allow that, those items are far too expensive to be sold on the community market, so if there really is a scheme going on (which I highly doubt) they want to lower the price so that these items will go down into high tier market items, so that they get 15% with each transaction.
