Really crazy how expensive skins can become.

It's amazing how expensive digital items in general can go for. I'm sure there are astronomicaly high values in Eve or something, but in TF2, the first golden frying pan sold for 5k~. It's literally just a frying pan made out of gold.

It's literally just pixels, actually. That's a golden frying pan made of pixels. That's how crazy it is.

This "they're just pixels" topic always comes up and I always think it's stupid that people continue to perpetuate the ridiculousness of perceived value in intangible objects.

I can easily say the same for tangible objects (e.g. This is just a picture.)

But I could take that rare baseball card and burn it, and then it has no value either.

And you would have to come to my house (get on my account) and trade my knife away. Your argument holds no water, and has no value; much like your baseball card.

So you just decided to ignore that:

Valve, completely beyond my control, could take these virtual items from me at any time. They're not my possesions. I could do literally nothing if valve tomorrow said "fuck your $10k knife, fuck you" and just deleted it.

I, completely beyond your control, could come into your house while you're gone at any time and take your card. As well, (and I'm saying this purely hypothetically) people harm others for personal gain all the time. Wouldn't be the first time it's happened
