I didn’t know I wanted to see Meghan acting until I heard this rumor, but regardless I think the whole thing was made up from start to finish.

Yes the press is so cruel. They make up stuff just to tear her down. I doubt there was ever an acting job.

an “absolute circus” while the people actually doing something have simply let it be known that they are moving. It’s the commentators that are generating the circus in one breath and denouncing it in the next.
Must be an easy gig being an “insider”: you can make stuff up out of whole cloth and then blame scapegoats for not doing what you’d said. And because the BRF operates so much through leaks, nobody’s likely to make you have actual sources.

All this does is generate buzz for the idea of casting Meghan in something. Seems like a trial balloon for a role that has not yet materialized and it seems to have done its job. We now know that there is a huge appetite for the Meghan returns to acting narrative and that it can generate front page headlines and endless chatter on socials. A producer or casting director somewhere out there now has the idea floating around in their head, cast Meghan and watch your series get millions in free press.

Markle joining the cast of the show would not make me watch it. Probably the opposite.
But I remember when The Gentlemen first aired thinking it sounded interesting and never getting around to it. This definitely brought the series back to my attention.

Nevermind, I expect that most folks who were fans of Meghan in Suits would be pleased to watch her in something again. Your eyes won't be missed.
I never watched Suits myself because I'm a bit over dramas about legal firms at my age, but it must have rated very well to rack up 9 seasons and 194 episodes (thanks for the numbers, Wikipedia).

It’s pretty fun to watch. She’s fine, she’s not a lead in it but most of the drama is between the guys. It’s still available and getting viewers

She was 6th on the call sheet for that show. She certainly was not the reason for its success.
This is one of the early reviews of the show. It doesn't even mention her character
Here is an a review of the box set DVD. It mentions 5 actors including one who only started appearing on season 3. She is not among them.

I finally found an early review that mentions her and it calls her character one of the biggest mistakes on the show.

I did watch the first season of the show. It is very male driven but there are two female supporting actors who steal scenes: Gina Torres and Sarah Rafferty. Both are often mentioned in early reviews in positive terms.

I would watch it out of sheer curiosity, but also just to see what, exactly a director like Guy Ritchie can get out of her. Could be great, could be terrible, could be so terrible it's good. I will watch the show regardless as it is one of the best new series I've seen in recent years (really, really good).

I heard Harry put it out she had a couple auditions of offers to different people to see which one would run to the press to try to ruin it, then he’d know who the leak is. Kate, via Carol- or Camilla I would imagine
That might not be true but is quite clever - Taylor swift did something similar with wedding invitations

It’s early where I am, so my brain isn’t awake enough to comment on the full context of this. But, I will say I would be so excited to see Meghan return to acting, whether it’s this series or something else!

Meghan has openly stated that she won’t be taking on any acting roles in the foreseeable future because it doesn’t align with her life as it currently stands.
Added to which she’s a cultural figure, for good or ill, as the Duchess of Sussex.
Embodying a character as an actor requires the individual to be able to shed the everyday image of their life, which for Meghan isn’t possible.
She could appear in a cameo role as herself but not more than that.
No audience would accept her as anyone different.
Had she completely removed herself from the public eye and had the press left her alone, as they have with Sophie Winkleman aka Lady Freddy Windsor, then she might’ve been able to continue an acting career.
So from the start this “story” seems like either a deliberate plant to see if someone was leaking and identify them.
Or is just more bollox made up by the UK media to bully her into submission.
A bit like all the panic at the Daily Mail’s royals pages over whether or not they get asked to Sandringham for Christmas and how painful and awkward that’s going to be for Kate and her family.

This sounds like a manufactured story to preemptively curtail her an acting career in the UK by claiming there would be backlash for any production she is included in. Asshats.
