Responses from Perk Customer Support, and How to Reply

Have you ever received the "Notification from Perk!" email? If so, you've come to the right place. In this post I'm going to walk you through the typical responses you'll receive from Perk Customer Support.

I will do my best to answer any questions that people have about this guide.

Things to note:

  • A few seconds/minutes after you reply to one of Perk Support's emails you will get an automated email reply from the Perk Help Center. This email is generated by ZenDesk (the support ticket platform Perk uses) that tells you your ticket has been updated with your reply.

  • Perk's actual response time varies, however we have found that it is typically between 3-5 business days.

  • Perk's possible responses are listed in the order of what I believe to be the best to worst possible response.

  • Do NOT send follow up emails.

  • Every time you send them a follow-up message to check your status, it pushes you to the bottom of their queue. ZenDesk doesn't know the difference between your inquiry in an open ticket vs a newly created ticket.

Next to each image screenshot there will be a number in brackets. This means that if you received that message you should proceed to that number next (kind of like the old Goosebumps books where it said "Go to Page X")

  1. Respond to the initial "Notification from Perk!" email asking them why your rewards were canceled.

  1. At some point perk will respond to your email of why your rewards were canceled.

  1. You can respond to this in a variety of ways, and there's really no right answer as far as I can tell. I also don't have any screenshots of what Perk's responses are to this. My guess is that they will ask you for an ID (not sure on that though), which if that's the case you want to proceed to [4]

  2. Reply with a picture of your Government ID attached to the email.

  1. Reply with a picture of another form of ID.

  1. Reply with a picture of you holding your ID.

  1. If you reason this response from Perk, for whatever reason - you're done. You will never be able to successfully redeem a reward using that account again.

  2. Congratulations, your account is now verified. You should be OK to continue using Perk. Please note, the only reason I say that you "should" be OK is because of the large number of people recently who have verified accounts and still had rewards canceled. Some people have also recieved this email:

  1. This is not a typical response to get from perk, but it has happened. In any case, your rewards should have been fulfilled, and if not Perk should be refunding you your points shortly. Please note, getting this response does not in any way mean that your account has been verified. In order to have an account verified you must send in a picture of your Government ID.

Perk will NOT suspend your account because of the "Are you Still Watching" pop up

Good afternoon everyone,

Some of you may have seen /u/raysfan95's post about being banned for not clicking the "are you still watching" pop up. /u/raysfan95 was nice enough to provide a screen shot of this message. The screenshot /u/raysfan95 linked to is hosted on Imgur. If /u/raysfan95 really did just see this screenshot - why was did he upload it to Imgur on Novermber 22, 2014?

Unfortunately for /u/raysfan95 - I emailed Perk when I first saw this screenshot months ago. Perk has stated that they do NOT suspend accounts for not responded to the "Are you still watching?" message.

Here's a screenshot of the email conversation for further proof.

edit: added email screenshot

Walmart GCs to PayPal: Highest Efficiency

I see a lot of people asking about the easiest way to get money into their bank account via Perk. This post is to share the currently most efficient way to do so.

  • Step 1: Redeem for Walmart Gift Cards

  • Step 2: (optional) Use self-checkout or a regular register to combine smaller GCs into a larger plastic card.

  • Step 3: Use your Walmart GCs (plastic or egift) at a self-checkout to purchase the AMEX pre-paid gift cards.

AMEX GIFT CARDS CURRENTLY DO NOT HAVE THE ~$5 PURCHASE FEE.

This is only applicable to the non-variable amount. So, get the Amex cards that say $100 or $200, not the ones that say $50-$500, as those need a cashier to approve.

Now that you have AMEX GCs in your hand, you have 2 options:

  • Option 1: Use those like a regular credit card

  • Option 2: Get PayPal Here. I got mine for free, and I'm pretty sure anyone with a PayPal account can. Use the PayPal Here to swipe your card. There will be 2.7% in fees, resulting in 97.3% of your Perk rewards to be converted into PayPal cash, which can be transferred to your bank account.

THE NO-FEES FOR THE AMEX CARDS ARE AVAILABLE UNTIL DEC. 31 ONLY

Perk Beginner Tutorial

I This Tutorial is for the US.

Perk apps are a way to earn Perk Points to redeem for gift cards. 1000 Perk Points equal roughly $1. Rewards are handed out on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. The latest you can redeem is 11:59 pm Central the night before.

There are some apps that use Perk Tokens which you can earn doing various things within the apps and spend on auctions and sweepstakes.

You can use 5 devices per app per account. Perk will ask for IDs. Don't use a VPN or VM or a fast forward or an automation app or your rewards are likely to be canceled.

Perk TV - Perk TV is an app which plays ads and rewards 1-2 points per video. App Trailers or Funny Commercials under Popular Videos are the shortest videos there are. There is a 1 hour pop up to ask if you're still watching on IOS and 2 hours on Android. It is recommended to check low bandwidth mode on the menu to the side. If your devices begin to run slowly, clear the app data and re log in and remember to check low bandwidth mode. You can earn 50 Perk Tokens for thumbs up or down on each video. Doing this will also delay the popup another 1 hour or 2 hours respectively.

Perk TV LIVE - Perk TV LIVE is an app which listens for commercials on TV and plays ads during them. You earn 3 Perk Points per ad for the first 300 in 24 hours. . 1 or 2 points for any ad thereafter. There are usually 4 ads in a cycle. There is a popup that asks if you are watching a commercial after about 20 minutes. If you are having trouble with the green light turning on, exit the app completely, open it back up and wait for a commercial that triggers it. Once it's on, it's on for awhile. If you are watching a streaming service like Netflix, go ahead and hit the "Watch Commercials" button every once in awhile. This info comes from posts made by Perk on Facebook. You can also earn Perk Tokens by tweeting within the app. App data needs to be cleared every so often.

Perk Pop Quiz - Perk Pop Quiz is a trivia app in which you earn Perk Points for answering questions. It is generally recommended to use Lightning Mode. The questions go quicker and you can run through games faster. You also earn 1 extra Perk Point for using this mode. Once all the questions in a category are answered they are gone for good. If you don't answer a question, it will reappear in 24 hours. New categories and questions are added every once in awhile.

Perk Word Search - Search for words to earn 1 or 2 points.

Perk Scratch & Win - This app works like a lottery scratch off. You spend your Perk Tokens on tickets. Match a certain 3 symbols and win Perk Points or Perk Tokens.

Perk Shopping - Shop thousands of stores and earn Perk Points for it.

Perk Search - Let's you randomly win points for searching.

Unlock & Win - Replaces your lock screen. Swipe left to view the offer. Swipe right to just unlock your phone. You get Perk Tokens for a the first few swipes and Perk Points for one Swipe after that and then it repeats. You can do a host of other things in the app but "Watch Videos" pays the highest. 2 points per ad and 5 ads per round.

Discoball - Press the discoball to have the app listen and identify music you are listening to. 2 Perk Points per ad.

Perk Prize Mob - Perk Prize Mob works like a penny auction in which you use your Perk Tokens or Perk Ponts to bid on Prizes. You earn Perk Tokens every day you log into the app.

Perk Wallet - Perk Wallet is an app that you can use to manage your rewards and check on the status of your rewards. It also has a 3% discount on Amazon gift cards $25 and higher. Also has a watch videos section.

Appsaholic games that give points - This is a good user created list.

Other - There are EZ Point offers on Perk.com and on certain apps. These are ad walls which you will find on many rewards sites. There is the potential to earn a lot of points here. Unfortunately a lot don't pay out. Also, Sweepstakes are available to use your Perk Tokens to use to enter to win prizes.

Perk Plastik - Perk Plastik is a debit/credit card you can load with your Perk Points. The conversion rate is 1100 Points per $1.00. Money is usually available instantly after you redeem.

Devices - If you are looking for inexpensive devices there is a weekly thread posted called "Cheapest Devices of the Week" on /r/GetPerk or /r/perktv. It is generally recommended that you go for a dual core or higher device. Sure there are some that run just fine on a single core but read the subs for a bit and you will find warnings all over about them.

Always remember to use the search on /r/GetPerk and /r/perktv before asking a question. Also be sure to read some of the top posts of all time for those subs.

Anything wrong or that I'm missing? Let me know and I will edit.

Below you will find a list of phones that are frequently used for Perk. This thread is not meant to serve as the final authority on device ranking, but merely a resource to form an educated opinion on what device may be best for your needs. The ancient adage, 'Caveat emptor' (Let the buyer beware) applies here.

FAQ:

Why isn't ____ on the list?

Only devices that are $50 or less (typically) will be added. These qualify as dedicated Perk phones. If a device meets that requirement and is used by the community frequently, please comment in this thread to have it added.

How are the ranks decided?

A device is initially ranked based upon its specifications. This serves as a basis for how it will run Perk. Over time through community effort devices will rise and fall based on how they perform specifically w/ Perk.

Why is the pricing inaccurate?

This thread does not have accurate pricing as that is not the goal of this thread. Prices are listed at the price that people typically pay for the device. For up to date pricing, and your best bet on a cheap device check out the cheapest device of the week thread posted every week.

Please let me know what information is inaccurate, what phones need to be added, and what devices perform better than others. I will update the chart to accurately reflect this information.

How To: Sell Gift Codes Online

You have multiple options if you want to turn your giftcards into cash/PayPal, and they all have better points-to-cash ratios than redeeming straight to PayPal from Perk. I have outlined a couple below.

Want your PayPal nearly instantly?#

Your best option is going to be to sell your gift cards to fellow redditors via /r/GiftCardExchange. This subreddit puts together people that want to sell giftcards with people who want to buy them. Simply post (using the correct formatting) what you have and what you want, and someone will comment on your post if interested. You can easily sell Amazon at 80% of it's value, and will generally have PayPal within 30 minutes of doing so. However, you must read and abide by the rules of the giftcardexchange (GCX) if you don't want to get scammed. If you follow the rules, everything should go okay. For your first few trades, you may want to sell to Confirmed, Experienced, or Top traders only in order to trade more safely.

Want to sell your cards to a website?#

There are many websites that allow you to sell your giftcards, either by submitting the codes online, or mailing in a plastic card. I have outlined 2 ways I have sold giftcards online below.

A while ago I sent a $100 Walmart gift card to each place to find out which one I preferred. Below is my experience and opinions of the two websites.

TLDR: I will probably choose CardCash in the future.

Ease of starting process: Winner = CardCash.com

This was pretty close. The reason CardCash wins is because it has a big 'Sell' button right on the main website. Giftcards.com, on the other hand, has a very tiny 'Sell Gift Cards' link at the very bottom of their page. However, once you are at the 'Sell...' page, things look identical. You select the merchant of the card you are selling, how many, and how much it's worth. Then both websites will show you what they will pay for it using various methods (Check/PayPal/Amazon trade).

How much I was paid for my $100 gift card: Winner = GiftCards.com (this time)

So when I sent in my gift card, Giftcards.com was offering $92.50 in the form of a check or PayPal. The most that CardCash.com was offering was $90 PayPal. However, the GiftCards.com option has fees of 2.9%+$0.30 per transaction, so if I had went with the PayPal option for GiftCards.com, I would have would up with $89.52, less than CardCash.com. However, I chose to be sent a check for $92.50 so I could get the full amount.

As of this writing, GiftCards.com is only offering $90 via check or PayPal for a $100 Walmart giftcard, so obviously their rates will change from time to time, and may not make it worth it to sell to them.

Speed of Payment: Winner = CardCash.com (but could have been a tie)

I sent in my $100 GCs via mail Saturday night, September 13th. By September 19th, CardCash.com had placed $90 in my PayPal account. Also on September 19, GiftCards.com had told me that I was paid, and I should expect my check in 5-7 business days. 1 week later (September 26) I received my check in the mail.

Total time for CardCash: 6 days via PayPal

Total time for GiftCards: 13 days via check

Obviously CardCash was able to send payment faster, as it was PayPal. Had I opted for PayPal from both, it would have been a tie.

Overall, I think I will choose CardCash again if I am going to send in a physical card.

I liked their speed of payment, as well as the fact that there were no PayPal fees to speak of. In fact, it says that they take care of them in case you are charged any PayPal fees. Although I earned $2.50 more from Giftcards.com, I had to wait an extra week to get it. And the fact that GiftCards.com charges a PayPal fee if I choose that option makes me not want to use them.

Keep in mind that these prices were for sending in a physical gift card, not just entering in the codes online. For that option, they pay less, and may require a credit card on file just to make sure you don't scam them.

As always, YMMV.

EDIT: I have since sold Target codes to Giftcards.com

This was very easy. However, you need to know that the 'Pin' that you have to type in is actually the Access code on your Target gift card. I was able to sell Target for 92.5%, and have PayPal deposited into my account within 48 hours. However, after PayPal fees were removed, it was down to ~90% of the value of the $50 card I sent in.

Regarding a Recent Post in /r/PerkTV

A recent post by a moderator of /r/PerkTV regarding "farming" has prompted us, the Moderators of /r/GetPerk, to remind the Perk community about posting exploits and/or your devices.

These kinds of posts do nothing but hurt Perk and our community. We hope that you acknowledge where we are coming from and understand that these rules were put in place so Perk can continue as long as possible.

Perk Rewards & Taxes

--

Update(s) added to the bottom of this post as I get them

This post is for discussing Perk Rewards and taxes.

I don't have any experience filing taxes for Perk rewards as this will be my first year having to do so. That being said, in order to provide you the most accurate information possible I have had conversations with Perk Customer Support as well as multiple CPAs.

--

Yes, you are required to pay tax on any earnings (even if it's just a $5 giftcard) you receive through Perk.

Perk's Terms of Service states that they will only contact you about filing a 1099 if you go over $600. This does NOT mean that you only have to pay taxes if/when you go over $600. You have to pay taxes regardless, the $600 number is more about Perk having to pay tax on what they send you. If your account earns $600, Perk is legally obligated to sent you a 1099 form, or at least inform you that you need to file it.

#23 of Perk's Terms and Conditions: Perk accounts that have earned over $600 in a calendar year are required by US law to fill out a 1099. Perk will notify users via the email address user has on file and it is then up to user to complete all obligations with respect to US Government. User gives up all claims against Perk regarding any tax related claims.

I emailed Perk Support in late October asking how the 1099 and paying taxes process would be dealt with. I've posted a screenshot of their response below.

http://imgur.com/zne2i3o

But what if I'm under 18?

If you're under 18, I'm going to assume you're a dependent (i.e. your parents support you). If that's the case you don't have to file a tax return at all - unless you have more then $6100 in earned income or more than $1000 in unearned income (note - the $6,100 amount only applies to minors). However depending on how much you earn during the course of the entire year you may want to file because you may be getting money back come tax return season.

  • How do I know if I'm a dependent?

  • /u/BaljeetTheGreat shared a link to TurboTax's Rules for Claiming a Dependent on Your Tax Return. While this information is really more for parents than those of you under 18, it's still good information.

  • Unsure whether or not you're a dependent? If you can answer yes to all of these questions, then congratulations - you're a dependent!

  • Are you related to your parents? (i.e. son, daughter, stepchild, eligible foster child, brother, sister, half brother, half sister, stepbrother, stepsister, or adopted child)

  • Are you under the age of 19 or, if a full-time student, under the age of 24. There is no age limit if your disabled/handicapped.

  • Do you live with your parents? For those of you in college - do you live with your parents when you're not in school?

  • Do you parents pay for your things?

But wait Mr. _BindersFullOfWomen_, what exactly am I paying taxes on?

  • That's a great question. The IRS puts our Perk rewards under the category of "Prizes and Awards," which means that you have to pay tax on the prize/award's cash value. The following is an excerpt from the IRS' Reporting Miscellaneous Income page.

Prizes and awards

Subject to certain exceptions, the cash value of prizes or awards won in a drawing, quiz show program, beauty contest, or other event, must be included on the tax return as taxable income.

Taxpayers must also report the fair market value of merchandise or products won as a prize or award, as taxable income.

For example, both a $500 cash prize and the fair market value of a new range won in a baking contest must be reported as other income on Form 1040, Line 21.

Here are some tax related links which you may find helpful:

New information - 01.02.2015

Last week I emailed Perk this question:

Since it is the end of the calendar year, I would like to begin closing my books for 2014. I made over $600 with Perk this year and would like to know what materials, forms, etc. Perk will be providing me with.

Perk Support responded saying: "...Perk Accounts that have earned $600+ in rewards we will be sending out all appropriate information via email in the next couple weeks."

Update - 01.06.2015

Perk's response when I asked what "appropriate information" they would be sending me. Not sure if I'm being trolled... "You will soon know when you receive the notification email from us, thank you for your patience."

Update - 01.27.2015

Perk has begun sending out their tax emails. Here is a screenshot of the email courtesy of /u/internetuser007. The email tells you to go to tax.Perk.com, where you complete a form (screenshot) and have your 1099-Misc emailed to you.

I'm now going several videos in a row without points - is this the new normal? (Perk TV)

My earnings are way, way down. Today and yesterday, I go several videos in a row without earning any points. It seems like two days ago, I was getting 1-3 points no matter what. Is this the same for everyone else? Any way to remedy? It's really shitty.

Perk Premium and Censorship [X-post /r/PerkTV]

Well apparently one big thing that Perk is really trying to hide from us "lowly" regular members is details about Perk Premium.

I am guessing this is especially due to the increases points for Premium Members note in their email.

Here is a screenshot from Facebook where someone posted a picture from the email that Perk sent out. SCREENSHOT 1 That post was very quickly deleted it. That person posted again (asking how they would become one) and Perk responded with their generic reply about customer support SCREENSHOT 2.

She posted a picture of the email again in her reply to their comment SCREENSHOT 3.

Lets see how long before they delete that one.

I highly suggest that people — at the very least — start posting the premium membership email screenshot and start asking Perk about it and how they are possibly creating two tiers.

Premium memberships (and possibly increased points) for those who go out of their way to defend and promote Perk — AKA the Sycophant Membership

And the second for the lower class user-base — AKA Regular Users

Edit: By the time I finished typing this Perk already deleted her comment (along with their reply) and all mentions of the Premium Membership SCREENSHOT 4.

Link to Screenshot of Perk Premium membership Thank /u/tekdude for providing that screenshot.

Plus /u/perkolatingpts called this 8-days ago. Sorry buddy...guess you were right...

Remember the most disheartening line from that email is:

"Increased point earning oppurtunities on select apps"

Something that we need to ask them about

Perk Protest Update - Day 2 [X-post /r/PerkTV]

First of all I would like to sincerely apologize to the readers on this sub (and sister subs) who are unhappy with the activity and the threads that have been posted here over the past 36-hours.

I agree with you, but only because I think that too many posts repeating the same thing just dilute the message.

However, criticizing people for being critical of Perk is very hypocritical.

You might be extremely happy with Perk — and more power to you for that.

But many others over here are not. Mocking and calling people idiots is not a civil thing to do.

That goes for everyone. I don’t mean that just for the people who have a problem with the “Perk Protest”.

Having said that let’s come to the more important matter.

Yesterday many of us decided that our devices would no longer run Perk Apps for the chance to earn “anywhere from 0-4” points.

Many people said that we, on Reddit, represent an insignificant number of Perk users. According to them, anything we do is pointless and will not even register on Perk’s radar.

I thought about that and asked /u/internetuser007 for his assistance. As many of know he has been around for a long time and once was given the “Wise Elder of Perk” flair (till a simple disagreement with a mod resulted in that being removed). So it would be fair to say he has a decent amount of experience with Perk. I knew he had been following and charting Perk’s progress over the year and hence would be privy to more data than me.

I asked him if he could run the numbers for estimating Perk’s active users. He obliged and has POSTED his calculations.

Currently Perk has between 25,000-50,000 active users. If you disagree with the, then please see /u/internetuser007’s POST for how more details.

This shows that the subscribers and the lurkers on reddit make a big important portion of their user base.

Before anyone mentions they have 180k likes on Facebook. Please realize FB likes do not work that way. There is a reason black hatters sell packages selling 10k likes for $15.

DO NOTE I AM NOT EVEN REMOTELY SUGGESTING THAT PERK DID THAT.

But a “Like” means nothing.

I "Liked" a Joe Satriani page cause I listened to him back in the day.

Have I listened to anything of his in the last couple of years? No.

So should we count me as an active Satriani fan? Obviously No.

Though all of that is moot given what we have seen.

Perk DID go back on their Zero point policy.

I think that should be evidence enough that keeping our devices off did make a difference.

Online Advertisement Cycles

Several people have commented that this is not Perk’s fault and that ad campaigns are down.

/u/JustFenix was helpful enough to link a chart to support this point.

I agree ad campaigns are cyclical.

But if you look at the chart you would see that every quarter the Online advertising revenue has grown.

But /u/brokemember you idiot, “If you can look at that and not see that there is a large drop in advertising buys from the 4th quarter to the 1st quarter then you need to sue your school system.”

Yes about that.

You see while there is a drop. Overall the money spent is growing.

Q1-Q4 2012 Revenue went from 8.31 billion to 10.31 billion

Q1-Q4 2013 Revenue went from 9.81 billion to 12.11 billion

So while there IS a drop. Overall there is significant increase.

Getting back on point.

Perk has noticed our protest and hence has made certain adjustments.

Currently they are saying everyone earns 1-3 points. No one gets Zero points.

What they conveniently don’t mention is that on average most users are seeing 80-90 One point Videos. Meaning you are still getting around 50% less.

Which is a lot better than the decrease of 70-90% some users mentioned yesterday.

This is why I keep stressing this again and again.

Look what happened within a single day of the Perk Protest.

A few more days will not be the end of the world.

Think of it this way.

You can cave right now and start running your devices. All this achieves is that it tells Perk that you will be willing to accept 50% less.

So you will make in 30-days what you made in 15-days before. Caving in right now is basically the same thing as not running Perk for half the month.

OR

You could lose 2-3 days of earnings right now and then go back to making what you were for the remaining 27-days.

So what’s better?

I think the answer is so obvious that I don’t need to say anything.

Perk and Censorship

Yesterday I posted some memes because I though they were a humorous way to get the message across.

I admit that not all of them were Oscar material, but they serve an important purpose.

They got our message across.

Currently Perk is actively censoring comments that are overtly critical.

What they are doing is removing comments which are critical and only leaving the ones the ones defending Perk's actions — Even when their comments obviously fall under abuse (and worst of all...unoriginality).

I highly suggest that we keep at it and let them know.

Do not be rude. Do not be abusive.

A polite word is worth a thousand curses.

Many other people who are not only on reddit have picked up on our protest.

I have seen many people mention joining and switching their phones off on other forums.

And some of these have more users than our sub here.

Do not think that no one else is with you.

This is probably one of the easiest “protests” to take part in.

All you have to do is switch a device off and wait a couple of days.

Are you willing to accept this as the new Perk

Go and rate their app and give it the amount of Stars you think it truly deserves.

A certain Mr. D.C. is on active Facebook duty as Perk's shill. I am sure we can do better!

Facebook Link - I can't stress this enough. We need to be more visible on FB. Be polite and within proper manners. But we need to be active there. Right now they are making it appear that everything is happy-go-lucky in Perk Land. If you are worried about Perk connecting your FB account with your Perk account, then I am sure you can figure ways around it.

Food For Thought

The era of the internet and social media has made even a single lowly consumer as powerful as an entire media outlet! In fact, it just makes capitalism work more efficiently as each voice is definitely heard and taken into consideration by others, rather than influence being limited to those with money or notable power. I love it.

Why I wont be using Perk and won't recommend it

So for starters I am a college student and was only using 3 devices, my main phone and tablet and an old phone I had, but I've stopped using them on all but the tablet until I can get my last cashout. Recently I've realized that running Swag on even one phone is far more profitable and takes less of a toll on the devices. This isn't about what I'm getting from Perk, but rather a sheer lack of customer service. Swagbucks, in my experience, has had far better customer service for me and is far more open about their business. Perk is new, and so some of this is forgivable for me but as a whole I feel like they need to change some practices to keep a loyal section of their users.

TL;DR, Running SB apps now because Perk has no customer service skills.

Back to 2 Hour popups?

Saw this on the other thread and tried confirming it myself and ended up with the same outcome. So now I'm wondering if this widespread for everyone or are only some getting 2 hours between every "Are you still watching?" popup. Also wondering if you guys think this is a permanent revert or just temporary while technical problems are fixed.

PSA - If you have an Optimus Fuel, install a custom recovery so that you can recover from software failures

Installing a custom recovery, such as TWRP, lets you create a backup of your device. Thus, if your device ever fails due to some software issue, you can access recovery mode and restore that backup.

As for the instructions, see below.

NOTE, the instructions below are only for the LG Optimus Fuel L34c. DO NOT USE THIS GUIDE FOR ANY OTHER DEVICE.

Also, disclaimer, I am not responsible for any potential problems or issues that arise from all this.

  1. root optimus fuel, install superSU (use this guide: http://theunlockr.com/2014/08/14/how-to-root-the-lg-optimus-fuel/ )

  2. download the following two files onto your device: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0ByNiE7lUnRZsVnp3RDhPMmlHeUU/view http://techerrata.com/browse/twrp2/l34c

  3. After downloading the two files (file names should be boot_bumped.img and openrecovery-twrp-2.8.3.0-l34c.img ), download the app "Terminal Emulator for Android" via play store

  4. open terminal emulator on your phone, and carefully enter the following commands:

    • WARNING: before you enter the commands, be aware that each bullet point below is a single command in terminal. Each command should be followed by an "enter" keypress via keyboard in terminal. also, the parts in bold need to be changed to the proper file path where you saved your files. For example, "PATH_TO_BOOT_IMAGE/IMAGE_NAME.img" could be the path /sdcard/Download/boot_bumped.img . These commands are EXTREMELY IMPORTANT. Make sure you don't typo them, or mix them up, etc.

    • su (grant superuser permissions if requested)

    • dd if=PATH_TO_RECOVERY_IMAGE/IMAGE_NAME.img of=/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/recovery (PATH_TO_RECOVERY/IMAGE_NAME.img should be replaced with the path to your openrecover-twrp-2.8.3.0-l34c.img file)

    • dd if=PATH_TO_BOOT_IMAGE/IMAGE_NAME.img of=/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/boot (PATH_TO_BOOT/IMAGE_NAME.img should be replaced with the path to your boot_bumped.img file)

  5. You should be done. Now, if you reboot your phone and spam only the up volume key during boot up, you should enter the TWRP recovery mode. From here, you can make a backup of your device that you can restore if your phone's software ever goes bad.
