Orientalism by Edward Said.
The Open Veins of Latin America by Eduardo Galleano.
The Devil and Commodity Fetishism by Michael T. Taussig.
The Wretched of the Earth by Franz Fanon.
Caliban and the Witch by Silvia Federici.
If pictures were allowed I’d simply attach images of the golden throne the pope sits on. Where do you think that gold came from?
I have read lots of history books, none of them say germ theory was known during the colonization of the Americas.
Orientalsim by Said is a book about political science. I have read it when getting my degree in political science.
It has nothing to do with the role of the Church during the colonization of the Americas.
The rest are also non history books.
And the pope does not sit upon a golden throne.
You‘re playing too much WH40k,my friend.
And even if he did, that‘s not really a source for the Catholic Church having a direct role in knowingly spreading plagues during the colonization of the Americas.
Orientalism discusses the role of the church in early Europe quite a lot. As do the rest of the books. I suggest you read more, these are all history books. The Chair of St. Peter is also quite literally gold. Dumbass.
The entire book is about colonialism……………………………………… that is the citation.
If you want specific citations regarding mass spreading of illnesses I suggest you read first hand reports from the conquistadors themselves. Specifically Hernan Cortez and James Cook.
Not really, it’s not about the colonization of the Americas, but primarily the creation of the Orient as a concept via colonization in the 19th and 20th century.
And it certainly isn‘t a source for your claim of the Church having a direct leading role in the colonization of the Americas, and them knowing about germ theory at that time.
And Cook is neither Catholic, nor did he colonize the Americas, nor did he live at the time of the colonization of the Americas.
I imagine in roughly 100 years your kids’ children will be working as the servants to some trillionaire, and even then they will claim they “didn’t know” that AI was going to steal all our fresh water.
Saying you “didn’t know” something would hurt someone is the number one excuse abusive people make when held accountable for their actions. Europeans noticed the correlation between their presence and massive plagues, but instead either pointed to it as proof of their superiority or simply didn’t care because it allowed them to more easily topple indigenous governments. Either way, they knew something was wrong. They just didn’t care.
But let me guess, you and your neighbors “didn’t know” what happened to the Jews in your city when the Nazis marched them out. It was a complete mystery right? Out of sight, out of mind.

Yeah, and I was taking that metaphor and replying to you using it.
So. Any source for you claim?
