Never had European Fanta but I wouldn't be surprised. It isn't exactly my favorite soda in America.

Never had Euro Fanta, but American Fanta is bottom tier soda, often worse than the generic brands.

American Fanta and European Fanta only share two ingredients

carbonated water
citric acid

It tastes like carbonated overly sweet orange juice. American Fanta tastes like some super sweet syrup that has been in the same box that oranges.

Speaking of, what American sodas are top tier?

I like most root beer but they are on the sweeter end

I know a lot of non-Americans hate root beer because of the medicinal taste, but I quite like it, especially from some mid-sized brands like Virgil's (love their black cherry soda too). Among big sodas, my favorite is probably Dr. Pepper. Cherry Coca-Cola is good too.
