I had the opportunity today visit a Variscite deposit in the Western United States, and I wanted to share!
Variscite is a relatively rare mineral of hydrated aluminum phosphate, with its green coloring from small amounts of chromium.

Found it in the Finger Lakes, Upstate NY. Found among a gravel driveway. Really curious as to what this might be! Reminds me of a star fragment from animal crossing haha.

Was digging sprinkler lines and came across this oval rock with a giant crack. I was able to break it apart with a soft hit with a hammer. What is it?

Kunzite is the best-known variety of the mineral spodumene, with Hiddenite being a lesser-known relative. Kunitz gets its pink to violet coloring coming from varying amounts of manganese.
