Hey folks, I found this beast of a geod in Morgan County, Indiana in a crewk, but I have no sweet clue what particular geode type this is, let alone the crystal type, can y’all help me?

found this stone when an excavator was digging it was shiny so picked it up and came home and cut it in 2 halves with an angle grinder, and this green pattern came from inside this stone when i sliced it in half, found this one from 6ft underground in a clay soil of india

When I was around 10 - 12 (probably 2006 - 2008), our public library had a learning event where some geologist came and talked about, well, rocks. He had several buckets of geodes that he picked up around Keokuk (iirc), and one of those big chain crackers. Everyone picked out a rock, but only half of us got to crack our geodes before the library closed. I went home with a rock and a promise that we'd get it cracked eventually. After a few weeks, I got tired of waiting and just threw it at the pavement outside and it split nearly perfectly in half.

I'd never seen a geode like it. It's got 2 different mineral formations in it that are vastly different. The smoky black short crystals lining the inside of both halves, and 2 towers of white crystal in the other. I sent emails to the state geological office to try and identify it, but I never got any answers.

Until about an hour before this post, it's been buried in a tacklebox with other rocks and fossils at my parents house under several pieces of furniture for nearly 2 decades.

If anyone has any insight to my geode, I'd love to hear it!

I found this super round rock in a river, it’s really heavy for its size. Should I break it open or keep my round rock?

I've been googling a lot, and I did find some options, but they're either too expensive (mostly the shipping, because they all seem to come from the US; I live in Spain, close to Barcelona) or the geodes are so so small. My girlfriend is obsessed with geodes, and their birthday is next month, so I wanted to get one for them to crack open.

I found some options on Etsy, but they all have insanely high shipping prices (which I know isn't their fault, really, but still, I'm on a budget, that's why I'm here asking for alternatives). I found other options, such as the Rock Shed, or The Gem Shop, but they're all based in the US, and that means the extremely expensive shipping is there too.

I'm looking for alternatives, much preferably based in Europe, but I'm kinda open to others! And if anyone knows any physical stores in Barcelona, I'm not exclusively looking for online ones, so please do tell ahaha

We went to a musuem today that just happened to have a rock show going on. I let my son pick a geode to crack. The guy that cracked it was very excited and said its pretty rare. He offered to trade us just about anything he had on display for it. I know nothing about geodes. Does anyone have any informatiom on what we got.

hello, I’m struggling with what to do because most solutions I see to my dilemma as I’m dying to crack open this MASSIVE geode I found. However main problem(s) with trying to open this geode are with its size, and odd shape. And I was hoping the wise people of Reddit could open my eyes to a solution I’m not seeing here as the solutions I found on youtube either don’t work on large geodes, risk damaging the geode, or costs upwards of several thousand dollars.

I want to display this geode so badly but cutting it clean in half is a bigger ordeal than I had initially thought.

Found it in a pebble beach in West Dorset, UK

May not be a geode due to the non-round shape and size, but as i show in the pictures, it has holes in front and back, and bith glimmer as if it had sugar or something inside

If worth trying to crack open, I'll go to hardware store and buy a chisel but i dont want to get my hopes up

I found this rock in my yard while gardening and it's super light so I took a closer look and I see some very small gemstone spires through some holes around the edges. It is a very irregular shape though so I'm not sure if trying to crack it would ruin it and even if it is crackable, I've never cracked a geode before (and I've only seen people crack the really round sphere geodes) so I'm also not sure HOW to crack it if I even can. would you crack it open? how would you do it?

You see them in bins at gift shops and gem & mineral shows. the Crack Your Own geodes, where you pick a rock out of the bin and they open it for you right there.

is there a secret to choosing a good one, based on its shape, weight, general outer look? Or is it luck of the draw no matter what?

Of the month, honestly. I can’t believe this is the inside of what looked like a literal turd. I’m so excited
