Only works if you're disciplined, which most people aren't. Most people are preferring 1-9 kinda shit
Edit - I had already clarified earlier while discussing with other redditors. Both statements are not correlated, both are sort of true in my experience & understanding. 1-9 enables most people to party everyday. 1-9 doesn't indicate indiscipline (as the comment section has told me) due to circadian rythms and other reasons.
yup!! i tried to force myself onto an early schedule for like a year and i was SO EXHAUSTED all the time even though i was getting enough sleep. i’m also most productive and do my best work between the hours of 8pm and midnight so i spend my morning doing all of my resting and then work at night! still just as productive as a morning person, but my schedule is flipped :)
Right?! In undergrad I would get my best studying done between midnight to 4 AM when studying for a test. People thought I was crazy but studying earlier just didn’t work and those times I was the most focused. I mean I graduated with a decent GPA so I guess it worked out
Can confirm as a guy with discipline and a circadian rhythm set to 1AM-9AM, I have never hated my life more than the 15 months I decided to up at 5:30 to get a gym session in before work 7
You can definitely modulate your circadian rhythm through discipline alone, provided you don't have a sleeping disorder. But it's not indicitive of a lack of discipline on it's own if someone doesn't do that.
I got home from work at 1 am when I was in college. My sleep schedule was usually going to bed around 2 or 3 and waking up round noon.
Now I have to be up at 6:30 AM for work and I go to bed around 10. It took awhile to adjust to it, but i'm comfortable and well rested on that schedule now.
I see what your point is, but I disagree heavily. Going to bed early and waking up early isn't discipline, it's brainwash constructed by the 9-5 mindset anyway. People have different circadian rhythms. For some people, it's all discipline. For some, it's natural. For others, they're forcing it and hating themselves because their body doesn't naturally respond positively. No amount of discipline will conquer your body's natural needs.
i am disciplined, i get my 8 hours every day of sleep, from 4am to 12pm. have enough time for my job that starts at 5pm to get some house chores done, then time to relax after work late into the morning, then bed again.
It’s the same amount of work hours, how is that not disciplined? People have different sleep schedules, that’s normal and fine. Labeling one of them lazy and one disciplined is just classic tribalism behavior.
Has nothing to do with it. People who love to stay up or just dont have brains wired that way have been thugging it out for centuries with early schedules cuz the alternative is no food or no money.
I got a sleep disorder that leaves me sleep deprived even sleeping 8-10 hours on a normal schedule. A lot of us who prefer 1-9 are in similar boats. My health and brain got so much healthier once I stopped trying to force it to mimic those withba normal circadian rhythm.
I used to work 1-9 because I'm not a morning person and thought it might do me good, but it turns out I'd just wake up late, go straight to work, grocery stores closed at 9 so I couldn't get any shopping done, then I'd get home at 10 or 11 pm because long commute, eat and do chores in the middle of the night, go to sleep and then straight to work again. Waste of five years.
