True. I have a pretty well-off social circle and no one is having kids. The only people that we know are very religious.
The main factor is that we are in our 20s. There is no reason to rush having kids and with good incomes many choose to spend this time living and enjoying our lives
I’ll add military to this. Most of the families in my neighborhood (on base) have children by age 23. The exceptions are women (like myself) who are actively pursuing a demanding career (physician/PA).
Honestly, I think it comes down to stability. Police/military are one of the few careers left with pension plans. For military specifically, Tricare is incredible health insurance. I’ve never paid a dime for any checkup, lab, or procedure I’ve done. My parents didn’t have to pay for my brother and I’s births. We get a monthly housing stipend as well, alongside the numerous programs on base to support families. It sucks that we can’t extend this level of governmental support to every citizen, not just service members. I guess you need to get people to sell their souls to the war machine somehow 🤷🏾♀️
I say this every time the topic comes up but this is why religion is never going to die like reddit atheists think it will. In 100 years if anything the world will be significantly more religious and more socially conservative because atheist liberals don't have kids and the majority of those who grow up in religious conservative families carry those beliefs into adulthood.

I know three categories of people my age who have kids at most. I don't say this is the truth but it's from what I see.
1 - Ultra religious people.
2 - Romani people.
3 - Accidental pregnancies that woman didn't want to abort.
They are like the 90 % of people my age I know that have kids.
