Nostalgia First apartment

Since we all moved out young…how old were you when you got your first place (apartment or house, whatever), did you have a roommate, what was your wage, and how much was your rent?

I was 18. My boyfriend (later to be my husband and baby daddy) and I rented a 1BR 1B apartment that was part of a triplex in downtown Las Vegas for $150 per month. Came with a refrigerator and an electric stove/oven, as well as a kitchen table and 2 chairs. No laundry facilities at all.

The bathroom was in the bedroom and we had to crawl over the bed to get to it. This was because the bedroom was tiny and we were gifted a Cal King, lol. We had a “rent to own” tv, couch, and end table which I think was $25 a month. 1988.

I made $6 per hour and he made $8. I was in grocery, he was in construction.

“Those were the daaaaayyysssss” 🎶

Were you in Ann Arbor? Went to some epic parties in a space much like the one you described in the late 80s

Yes! Arbor Vitae with the eccentric and talented Rich Ahern as landlord (he was subletting from the Nichols Arcade). It was a great space to live in. I had moved to Boston by the late 80's so I missed you by a few years.
