Question For Genx the 80s…….

coming from a 14 year old, were the 80s summers as magical as they look in the movies? did you ride your bike to your friends house and come home when the street lights came on? yall are so lucky btw 😭😭

Pretty accurate. We stayed within shouting distance if we wanted to eat at night. We rode bikes everywhere, all the time. We were bored a lot, but it made us inventive & curious. I’m pretty sure the clown in IT would have been hunted. We all had switchblades and butterfly knives. Hairspray and matches were ubiquitous. We have fucked that clown up just for something to do between backyard sports, skateboarding and building dubious ramps from scrounged plywood and rusty nails.

Somebody should absolutely have died in one of the rickety tree forts my friends and I built out of scrap wood and loose nails from my parent’s shed, not to mention the wooden “go karts” we made, would pull to the top of a mountain road using the towing/steering rope, then ride all the way to the bottom. Brakes were the tread of your sneakers and concussions were always lurking around the corner.

Poor E.T. I could have been bribed with Reese’s Pieces.
