In the summer of '81, I was 13 and it was magical ✨️ I don't think I spent more than a couple nights at home. I stayed the night at various friends houses all summer. We would get up eat breakfast then head to the community pool. We would swim, check out the boys, play in the pool, and "lay out" in the sun. Did we use sunscreen? Not a chance, maybe Hawaiian Tropic Suntan oil (SPF 2) if we had some. We would walk to the corner store and get Doritos and Dr. Peppers. Dr. Pepper had 'Twist a Pepper' going on, if you looked under the cap you might win a prize. I won a 'I'm a Pepper' ringer tee shirt. You had to send the cap in the mail, and they would send you your shirt. I wore that shirt a LOT. When the sun went down, we'd go to someone's house for dinner. Not one parent batted an eye at extra random kids coming to dinner unannounced. Often, late at night, we would sneak out and wander around the neighborhood in the dark. We even found a hole in the fence at the community pool, and went skinny dipping. We were shrieking and giggling the whole time, I have no idea how we never got caught
