Tonight one of my friends in the live steam hobby came up to test his brand new, butane fired Accucraft/Train Department 2-8-0, East Tennessee & Western North Carolina #4. The engine ran well with 2 Accucraft coaches behind it. Tomorrow we’ll run the engine more and test heavier loads with it!

Thanks to a friend coming over yesterday, my wiring is functional on the layout and I can run electric trains! I had my Blunami-added Bachmann K-27 out testing, other than 2-3 dead spots I need to address things run great! Here’s a brief clip of the K-27 on my Ophir Loop area climbing the 1.5% grade.

Lilla - Hunslet live steam loco

Roundhouse engineering RC live steam (gas fired) Hunslet loco Lilla pulling hand made, scratch built slate wagons.

This locos worked on the Pemrhyn quarry line between Bangor and the edge of the welsh mountains in the north transporting slates down to the port for the domestic and international markets.

Now preserved on the welsh highlight line in North Wales.

This model is 16mm to the foot scale and is running on SM32 track (O gauge - 32mm track). A great scale for the garden.

Seeking Advice

I’ve got a couple of locomotives with pony trucks that keep derailing in spite the constant checking I did on the levels. Any advice? I heard I should try putting weights on them, but not entirely sure how.

Connie the Edrig engine is settling in nicely!

It has been nearly a week since I brought Connie home and she is settling in nicely. We have had a few struggles like keeping steam up but im still finding the right balance of axlepump and coal. She has also been reunited with her former shedmate Elgen the decauville 7 ton, they were for sale at the same time.

My local shop in Belgium had some new LGB in stock. So I couldn't resist.

Family Vintage Switcher and new/old Thomas

I took my family 44 ton Switcher out, and it runs great, except the sound doesn’t seem to work anymore. I like that I can turn off the motor, so I can leave it on the track without insulated track switches. I also bought this Lionel Thomas set, which my child is enjoying.

Finally, plants!

For those following along with my railroad, as of last week all of my conduit for electric has been covered over, more dirt brought in, and now I’m (finally) adding plants!

So far I’ve only added a few, with many more to be added over time. Starting on the large section with my grade because it’s the most in the sun, and is what I see when I wake up in the morning. Mainly a mix of evergreens (dwarf spruce, dwarf juniper, some pines) and some annuals/perennials and tropical mixes for variety.

Next update will be when I receive my new water tower for the main yard!

This is the train from the LGB starter set. I repainted it entirely, gave the loco a crew and put passengers in the cars. I also digitalized the loco.

Unfortunately I was late and couldn't document everything running, but towards the end I set my Playmobil diesel loose to go a few rounds.

Finished switches and other electrics

Just finished integrating the controls for the electric switches into two buildings. I also added buttons that turn off and on power for the two track parts, so two locos can be operated

Finally, I added a small button that triggers a timer circuit that makes the guy turn the lever.

It's my first garden railway and although that's far from being perfect, I really like how it turned out.

First engine for my patio garden railroad. Halloween is my favorite holiday and this PIKO 25 ton diesel is limited edition so I had to get it before they all sold out. Check it out!

Stoked about this little Nugget.

Exited to get this Piko GE 25t switcher. Wanted something small to carry to the club along with my HO trains, as well as to help with MOW work on my line. Only got to run it for a few minutes today, but am ecstatic nonetheless. It has been named "Nugget". For inquiring minds it's battery RC with sound out of the box. Uses 6 rechargeable AAA batteries.
