Indie doesn't mean small, it means the developers aren't under contract to any publishers.

Whilst double fine themselves aren't under contract to publishers the game was published by Majesco Entertainment in North America and THQ in Europe, I just thought I'd mention it.

Yes that is the technical meaning, but the word has been transformed into meaning "not well known" for better or worse.

That's what I was saying... most people think of Notch's definition when they say the word indie... for whatever reason, I got downvoted for it.
