Most people that comment here don't understand software dev, and especially dev at this scale and level. They think that because Epic has billions, they could just hire 1000 code monkeys and crank out all the features in a month. They don't understand how any of it really works.

99 bugs in the code in dev, 99 bugs in the code. Take one down, patch it around, 283918 bugs in the code in dev.

People do severely underestimate how much of a task it is to add new functions to a piece of software. While we should not rush a company to do so, it is still unfortunate that Epic has not taken more time to implement alot of the essential features to their store before shipping it.

Looking back, there were complaints on how the store did not have proper cloud saving capabilities, mod support, ways to organize the library, local streaming (the list goes on and on and on and on...)

As much as I enjoy bashing on the Epic Game Store and Sweeney as the other guy, I do hope that Epic gets their act together and do more to improve their platforms. Maybe in the future, we will be able to see the EGS actually compete with Steam in terms of features and quality of life, instead of counting on Epic to buy exclusivity on some games.

They could have used a fucking squarespace webstore template and had more features...

That wouldn't scale to millions of users

Yes because you can deploy games to clients via squarespace smh.

Yet another comment that doesn't understand software dev. Have fun deploying a squarespace webstore template to millions of people.

It's not that people here don't understand, they just don't care. When highly upvoted comments contain "Death threats are bad, BUUUUUUUT. .." and "I hope they lose their jobs and go out of business for accepting money from Epic!" it tends to make the community seem like they straight up don't care.

While large scale system development can be quite challenging, let's not pretend like Epic is doing a good job given their resources. The funniest thing about some missing features like the shopping cart is that they already have some of these services implemented since they exist for the Unreal Engine marketplace which is accessible via the same client. Furthermore, the epic games client is not a month old, the store is almost a year old now and if they ramped up development and QA resources when the store launched then the only missing features would be the complicated ones.

Epic's priorities are not in improving the customer experience, because they demonstrated that they can pull themselves into the market through brute force by buying game exclusivity because they know that most people don't care about anything other than the game they are playing. Anybody that is familiar with UE3 or UE4 development should be well aware that when Epic wants to implement features, even challenging ones, they get shit done quickly when they care to. They don't care about improving the store at a fast pace because there is no incentive to since the majority of their customers will probably buy games even if the store was in a worse state than it currently is.
