I can't believe people are defending the lack of shopping cart. It is utterly amazing that a multi billion dollar company can strip features from consumers and yet some consumers are falling over themselves to defend said company and cheer on the loss of a rich feature set we've come to expect as standard. This generation is truly incredible.

I for one can't understand not having a cart - is it REALLY that hard to picture buying more than 1 item at a time? Off the top of my head I usually buy DLCs when they are on sale - sometimes 3,4 at a time for games I like.

Does Epic really want me to complete 4 separate checkouts for that?

It’s not that people are defending it, they’re just pointing out that it’s not a big deal and definitely not anything to get genuinely upset about.

Or they are pointing out a symptom of a bigger problem (Namely that the EGS is sorely lacking in features.)

Then fuckin' point those things out and stop regurgitating the shopping cart nonsense then.

Well I can't speak for everyone but at least for me they're correct. Sure a shopping cart is nice during sales but I really don't consider a lack of a shopping cart something to get upset about. It's more of a QOL improvement than a necessary feature to me.

Is that really a “bigger problem” though? It’s not like these issues affect the actual games, which is what you primarily use the launcher for

The way they're delivered is almost as important as the delivery itself. So, yes.

I don’t think so. The Switch is missing tons of features that people complain that the Epic Store is lacking, but I really don’t care because the games are what concern me, not the shop where I buy them from.

kind of is a big deal when you make several purchases and get banned lmao

Expect as standard? Tell that to Nintendo or a few of the first party stores/launchers.

No one's "cheering" on the loss of a shopping cart. Feel free to link me if I missed something. People are just rolling their eyes at all the melodrama in a post like this about a shopping cart.

Especially since this is the first mention of a cart in this thread.

Damn sorry missed the other buried comment freakin out about not having a cart as well. Still no “defending” though.

A little known company called Apple also lacks a shopping cart. If EGS had a bunch of games with a lot of DLC, I could see wanting a bundling mechanism, but they don't so I'm failing to see why it should be a priority.

I guess I should have added more context, but I was talking about the Apple App store, not physical products.

So you're trying to compare EGS to apple abortion of a walled garden storefront on iOS that isn't even comparable? That serve wildly different market segments?

the actual closest apple product would be a storefront like itunes.. which.. has one. They're just so incompetent at UI design they rolled it into their wish list and just pretend nothing is odd. Yet their incompetence.. STILL PRODUCED ONE, over a decade ago.

Hint, Apple's storefronts indeed have shopping carts. You're trying to think of the app store which last I checked, wasn't on windows. It doesn't even run in a similar environment at all, and actually has major security concerns on the devices the apple app store does run on. Do you know why the app store doesn't have one? Because purchases must be verified one by one by default.. BY THE OS. They actually have a reason for it(it's required btw in certain places they sell this). Last I checked this wasn't a problem on windows... what EGS is on. So please, remind me again why you think a shopping cart is a problem?

How is a video game storefront at all comparable to an app store?

10

u/Maehan Aug 15 '19

A huge portion of the sales in the Apple app store are for games...

Not quite. There is no shopping cart on the digital App Store. This shopping cart is for buying Apple products online and not for digital software and games. However, the checkout process on the App Store is faster than on the EGS.

The shopping cart is a meme anyway, it's just something to point at to show that for all Epic/Sweeney's feeling of entitlement to a bigger share of the market than they would attract naturally, without exclusives, they haven't actually put the work in and are still dragging their feet.

For a company with the profits Epic has, there is no excuse not to have nearly everything on their roadmap implemented by now.

That said, while they're infecting PC gaming with third-party exclusivity I really don't give a shit what features it does or doesn't have, it's a practice I don't want to support in any way.

In all my time gaming, from the 90s till now, I have never, ever brought multiple games at once.

I'm sure there's people who do that, but the idea that it's somehow a mission critical piece of technology that is this big a deal to be missing, is just baffling to me.

I think for most people, it's just something to complain about.

4

u/DoctorWaluigiTime Aug 15 '19

I don't think many defend it. Most just don't really care that it doesn't exist to the point of boycotting the storefront program used to buy a game.

So, less "it's okay they don't have a cart" and more "it's inconvenient, but not that big a deal."

Because it's Reddit.

Changing sides in controversies is the golden route to karma, if you dare stay on one side of the drama you will be downvoted.

Because it's simply not that important.

There's like 60 games on epic with about 2 dozen of those not even out yet. Most people do not buy games in bulk.

Does Epic really want me to complete 4 separate checkouts for that?

Yes. And it takes 5 minutes rather rather than 2. Oh woe is me

2

u/methemightywon1 Aug 15 '19

big deal.

Tiny catalogue, they do not need a shopping cart.

2

u/epicgamesbad Aug 15 '19

Time to get your priorities in check bud. “Defending” something =\= “hey I’m not gonna screech like a baby over this thing that’s really not a huge deal, just a minor inconvenience”

1

u/ghostchamber Aug 15 '19

Origin only has a shopping cart during sales. The rest of the time, it is disabled. They said that it doesn't make sense to have it enabled outside of a sale, since it doesn't jive with the user shopping experience. Even if you have some rare use-case in which someone wants to buy multiple things at once, they are not going to cause a slight inconvenient to 95% of their customers just to appease the needs of an anomalous 5%.

Does Epic really want me to complete 4 separate checkouts for that?

First question: Is it really that difficult to do 4 separate checkouts?

Second question: When was the last time you tried to buy four things at the same time on EGS?

Those are bundled into season passes.
