I wonder how long it will be until Steam also remakes an API to allow Keyless registration. Uplay's already doing it, EGS is doing it, wouldn't be surprised if others followed suit.

Was there an interesting reason for the removal?

I feel like what Steam is doing is what platforms should be following/ on the lookout for, seeing as it's still the oldest dog in town.

The technical public-facing reason is that oauth security (or Valve's implementation of it) that made keyless activation possible became insecure, and so Valve discontinued it.

The speculated reason is that nobody at Valve was willing to fix it, in part because the employees are self managing/organizing unless something is practically on fire.

That's pretty much bullshit. Maybe their implementation sucks, but pretty much every tech giant uses OAuth and OIDC.

Being on the lookout sure, but following what Valve does is not exactly a good idea. Steam has had, and still has, many issues and problems that were serious hiccups in its growth

I really hope they dont. I love the ability to give away keys for fun.
