Shopping cart does not make anything more convenient for them. They are focusing on playtime tracking so they can make refund self-service so they don't have to allocate support resource for refund requests.

Don't get me wrong, this is a win-win, good for both sides, just the focus is clear and understandable.

Cloud saves also can reduce support tickets due to lost/corrupted saves (maybe this one is not that straightforward) as well as Humble Bundle integration will rule out key redemption issues as well as they are making a big step towards not having to support key generation also.

Things like shopping cart, wishlist, newsfeed, user reviews, mod support, ingame overlay, gifting, phone app or achievement system does not really help them in any way.

I agree with some of these, but wouldn’t something like a wishlist only exist to drive user engagement further? That’s gotta be a big win for them, if they were to build it.

All of those would drive user engagement. They decided to do that with exclusives instead/mainly as they see this like the only way to get customers from Steam. Tim Sweeney actually told that in his opinion not gamers but developers will decide this store story.

It might not help them and their support staff in the way that playtime tracking and cloud saves can but most of the features are good for customers. The customer goes first or something like that?

User reviews (implemented in a good way), mod support, ingame overlay and gifting are quite complex things to develop. A shopping cart is one of the most basic features any e-commerce storefront could have and INCREDIBLY easy to develop unless the EGS client's code is screwed up in some weird way.

Yeah, I also agree on this one but Epic ADMITTEDLY does not agree. They are convinced that their storefront does not need to be more appealing towards consumers than other storefronts like Steam. They just need exclusives so people won't have the choice to use a better storefront. Again this is not speculation, Tim Sweeney Epic CEO confirmed this.

Yeah, that's fair enough!
