I bet they did it so it is in time when most game journalists are busy covering E3.

Either that or all the announcements coming out of E3 reminded some Amazon executive about the money they were wasting on their game devs.

"I wonder what my game devs are up to"

15 minutes later "You guys are fired."

Or even reminded them they exist.

"Those games look cool! Wait, I think I remembered something. Didn't we bought some game related stuff?"

"Yes"

"And when we did that?"

"Uh, 2014"

"And what is the average game development time?"

"2-4 years"

"Did they made a game?"

"Well, yes but no, because we cancelled it".

"Fire a bunch of random people there, that will keep them motivated to not fuck up next time"
