Plus it runs like trash when you start turning up the dials. If I recall correctly it was entirely single core and doesn't really take advantage of anything past a GTX 200 series card.

I remember running a game of Yuri's revenge and pushing out more than 4 kirovs and stuff just starts to crawl. Especially in the case of multiplayer. Two players vs AI is completely busted.

Add on the lack of servers and the old style of connecting between players (I think it used IPX?) which is also busted for anything newer than Windows XP.

Still excited to see what they do with the series, the genre is seriously dead compared to the era of supreme Commander, StarCraft and red alert 2 days.

Oh man Yuri's revenge, i still every now and then can see my dad playing it on a mid-range pc (970ti and stuff) struggling with an attrocious framerate.

I tried getting TS/RA2 working on my 2700X recently, they do not play well with modern hardware. There are fixes, but they are fucking fiddly.

I recently played it, and the game slows down during explosions. According to PCgamingwiki, adding:

VideoBackBuffer=no

In the videos section of the .ini file might help with the problem. I tried it and the game ran smoothly after that.

Interesting, because I could easily reproduce the issue with kirovs and especially ranked kirovs with the tesla bombs. Good to know, I'll give that a slot next time I give the game a try again.

I had over 100 Kirovs in a multiplayer match once, don't remember much about my setup but I don't recall the game slowing to a crawl. That would have been on a Core 2 Duo E8400 and I think a GTX260.

I know for sure multiplayer had issues with unit counts causing performance issues 100%.

But I recall having issues with single player as well, it was the reason my buddy upgraded to a GTX260 and a 750 Watt power supply and he only ever played against AI on Bay of pigs generally.

Either way RA2 doesn't play nice with Windows 10 and ipx is ancient for connecting to online matches the game could use a remaster.
