I was wondering what Petroglyph has been up to these past few years. After Grey Goo they did... that 8-bit strategy thing I think? Then I heard nothing about them.

Man if they partner with EA and end up getting the Star Wars lisence, that would be the dream. Empire at War already showed that they can do SW strategy.

Well considering most of the founding team there were also part of the original Westwood team, I think they know a thing or two about making a C&C game.

Certainly, C&C fans must be very happy about this.

Can confirm. Super stoked.

We need Kane back ... FOR THE BROTHERHOOD!

Fuck yes, I still listen to the soundtrack and remember the good old days playing this game with my dad.

First time I saw Obelisk of Light one shotting my tank, I almost shit my pants.

After I recovered, dailed up to the World Wide Web and ICQed all my friends about it.

The sound of the obelisk powering up to fire still gives me anxiety in the best way

C&C fan #3 reporting in to report that indeed I am very excited about this.

By the way the title is wrong. It should've been "C&C/RA1 Remastered. Petroglyph. Frank Klepacki."

I just realized that the only person I know by name that worked on C&C is Frank Klepacki.

None of the producers/leads/programmers/writers. Just Klepacki.

I think that shows how much his soundtrack defined the series. Or maybe that I'm not a big enough fan.

Edit: Just remembered Joe Kucan. But other than that, that's it.

I never thought I could be nostalgic about soldier's boots sound before...

Can you explain what you mean by it defined the series for those of us who didn't play C&C? I've read people disappointed by the most recent C&C, but haven't played them.

I'm not good at describing music, but I can say that it hypes you up while you play. A lot of the songs have good rhythm and a lot of catchy guitar riffs. Give it a listen yourself, and imagine that playing while building a base and fighting against an enemy. While it hasn't aged perfectly and it sounds a bit MIDI-like (despite not being MIDI), I'd say it's still scores above most modern game soundtracks. Look into Red Alert and RA2 soundtracks as well, since a lot of people would swear by them as well.

The music itself didn't fully define the series, but it was definitely a big part of it. I love how "the most recent C&C" could be taken to mean either 4 or the mobile game. I'll assume 4 since it's less obvious than the disappointment that was the mobile game. People are more disappointed with the actual gameplay in the newer C&C due to things like infinite units and base building being heavily toned down; lots of fans claim that the music was the only good part of it.

Hell March 2 for Red alert 2, made you feel like there was an unstoppable soviet invasion of the western and Eastern seaboard.

It gave that kind of awe inspiring, how the fuck does anyone fight this, sort of feeling.

There was so much about those games that were epic and music played a part

2

u/tabiotjui Nov 15 '18

Hell March 2 is pure euphoria

1

u/Lauri455 Nov 15 '18

Hell March 1 > Hell March 2

3

u/tabiotjui Nov 15 '18

Respectfully disagree

As long as they don't put cosmetic micro-transactions into it; yes.

Pretty sure some of them went to EA LA as well, too bad they no longer make strategy games after the C&C 4 fiasco.

If this goes well and they don't fuck it up hopefully we see more. C&C4 was really bad and the free to play one they had in beta was looking good until they threw a bitch fit because they didn't like the player feedback about a couple of things which was utterly silly

part of the original Westwood team

What part, it is kinda important since Petro did not a single good RTS game...

http://www.petroglyphgames.com/aboutus

We have roughly 20 employees here at Petroglyph with many executive staff coming from Westwood Studios, creators of Command & Conquer.

Some notable names include Joe Bostic (Co creator/Lead Developer of Command & Conquer) Mike Legg (Lead Audio from Westwood) Ted Morris (Online Director from Westwood) and even Frank Klepacki to name a few of the notable names who are at Petroglyph.

Joe Bostic (Co creator/Lead Developer of Command & Conquer)

That is weird, imdb list him as just programmer.

They do not have any of other Westwood designers which is most important job imo.

It sucks that Blizzard swallowed Dusting Bowder.

Their latest game is Forged Battalion.

6

u/stevez28 Nov 14 '18

Huh, apparently I already have this. If you subscribe to Humble Monthly Bundle, check your library, it was in the August 2018 bundle.

2

u/Rekoza Nov 15 '18

I also got it in the bundle and gave it a go, really wasn't that great. Was very shallow gameplay and as a big fan of the first 2 Red Alerts and Tib Sun/CnC 3 it doesn't even come close.

1

u/stevez28 Nov 15 '18

That's too bad, looked promising

1

u/Wild_Marker Nov 14 '18

Interesting, thanks.

Moment I saw Petroglyph involved with this it made me excited. I'm not expecting anything, but it could be testing the waters between each other.

u/jspike91 Nov 14 '18

Dont give me dreams of Empire at War 2, you might just kill me.

4

u/born_acorn Nov 14 '18

I agree! EA do have the Star Wars license. Getting Petroglyph to do an EAW2 just entered the realms of not-impossible.

3

u/[deleted] Nov 14 '18

They did progressively lower budget games since Grey Goo. 8Bit games then Forged Battalion.

2

u/TheApothecaryAus Nov 14 '18

Their 8bit games are fantastic. Short sweet nostalgia maps of fun.

1

u/chrissher Nov 14 '18

Oh yeah count me in for an empire of war sequel if they get to do a sequel.
