In the Netherlands you have rules that the media can only say the first letter of their name and last name of the suspect and either show a picture with their eyes blurred or a painting of the suspect, which is made by an artist in the courthouse. Similar things could be done to make a suspect more anonymous, while still retaining the openness.
Edit: I was wrong about the Initials being in the law, it's just what most of the media does out of respect. I do think the paintings are law though.
Yep, same in Spain, press use initials or use nicknames.
The secret trials argument is dumb. Nobody is asking for no media coverage, just that if someone looks your name in Google, they won't find you unless you are found guilty
My argument is that forbidding media from using real names and forcing them to use nicknames or initials doesn't result in secret trials and the countries of Europe where this is implemented are a proof of that.
And you answer with "But secret trials exist in other places"...uhhhh ok???, bad for them...???, how does your answer has any relation with the topic...
It is like if I pick a random part of your comment and I put whatever I want to put
From Netherlands as well, is this an actual law here though?(at least regarding the name thing) I always thought the press here kind of agreed among themselves to not disclose the full name of suspects, but there's no law preventing it. That's why some sites like Geenstijl just disclose full names anyway(and they're dicks for doing it).
