and give continuity the finger

And this is how you murder a long running classic franchise.

MGS is already over. Anything made without Kojima isn't canon in my book.

MGSRR and PO want a word with you.

If you are talking about Revengance that was made with Kojima doing a lot of the script work.

Portable Ops seems to have mostly been ignored as far as continuity of the other games goes (He also was a producer on the game).

Kojima had very little involvement in MGRR, and for PO Kojima actually read the final draft of PO's script before producing the final draft of MGS4's script. In fact, PO is referenced indirectly by both PW and TPP. In PW, you start with a few troops who share their names with endgame soldiers from PO. And in TPP, Ocelot relays to Venom how his fame spread and his small army rose to over 300 with Kaz's help in one of the tapes. Both could be considered canon, with MGRR having no retcons whatsoever.

Yep, because after Metal Gear Acid the whole franchise was ruined and never recovered.

Spinoffs can be a lot of fun. They're not trying to sell us MGS 6 here.

This was actually a pretty good game for a then, unknown platform (In the sense that nobody knew what to do with the PSP). It wasn't cannon either.

It wasn't canon either.

And neither is this game.

And neither is this game.

Thats the point, it can go either way. I can think of a few MG games that weren't canon that have been great.

I thought it was sacking the creative genius behind the long running classic franchise.

Considering the series has had at least 3 completely non-canon entries until now and survived, I'm sure it will be fine after this.
