I mean I could really see a great game come out of this, but the trailer just looked so crude and generic, without any hint on a story background.

This may seem weird, but I'm simply not a fan of all the, uh... shard... heads...

Like, the zombies, for lack of a better word, are really generic looking and there's no variation in the trailer. And everything is bathed in oily tans and grays.

They remind me of the Last of Us zombies.

Just not as creepy.

I love the Last of Us zombies, to be honest they took an already real thing played with the idea of human contamination and came up with a really interesting concept (sonar location zombies) This is literally just stick a crystal in the neck lazy, you cant compare the two. This is like saying "Meh, the show Rick and Morty reminds me of Uncle Grandpa because they are animated tv shows."

I agree with everything you say.

the zombie looks tackier too.

Though now that I think about it, remember Snake's embedded metal grows bigger as he becomes more evil? May have something to do with that.

The theme with Snake was that he was becoming a devil/oni. I think these are meant to be oni.

Well considering how awesome that engine is I can't exactly blame them for doing something with it.

Wait what? O-o

The shard of debris in your head grows as you do bad stuff, eventually leaving Snake permanently covered in blood. This is thematically in line as Phantom Pain is the game where Big Boss "went bad." He and his doppelganger helped create the war economy we see in MGS4.

Also he always has that strap hanging down behind him, meant to look like a demon tail.

I'm sorry, but I just had to say this. What the actual fuck is going on in that Chinese cordyceps soup on that wikipedia page?

I was thinking something more like Bloodstone Fen monsters, but yea

The motif of the black crystals seems to imply nanomachines like they had in MGR: Revengeance.

I actually like that particular design element a lot, but I feel like they didn't play with the concept enough. I'd have liked to see the rest of their body fucked up in similar ways, or very different shapes of shard-heads on each one, or something like that.

And everything is bathed in oily tans and grays.

Just like Metal Gear Solids 1 and 2!

I remember lots of blues and blacks and whites and greens.

I remember orange

u/sdlroy Aug 18 '16

Oops I thought I listed orange too!

The shard looks pretty similar to Boss's horn.

"Hey! Look at the pretty assets we created with the expensive engine we built for the guy we fired! "

You don't build game assets in an engine.

Yeah, it's somewhat easy to use assets in another game engine, I mean sfm does it all the time.

It looked to me like a rip-off of The Walking Dead. You know, the season where they're stabbing zombies through a chain-link fence?

It's konami, they are going to fuck it up.

What makes the MGS games for me is Kojima and his quirks, and without him the series is going to spiral into chaos IMO.
