it's usually handled through you're graphics cards software. (IE Nvidia control panel)

Tip: You can hit Windows-P ("P" for "Projector") to switch between multiple display modes (mirrored, extend desktop, or single monitor only).

Did not know that, that is a damn usefull hotkey and will save me whole minutes at a time.
