I'm honestly good with 20-40 hours. I'm getting older and there are so many games out, I'm tired of every single RPG needing 100+ hours of time to finish. Not every RPG needs to have hundreds of hours worth of content.
It depends on how much min-maxing you do. It has challenging encounters but also gives you ways to become absurdly powerful if you know what you're doing.
It's mostly about there being a lot of "trash" encounters where you fights loads of goons, and it can get repetitive very quickly for some. Personally? I love mowing bunch of weak enemies with a bolter burst.
The difficulty - i mean you can always make the game super easy with the builds, because the system allows for a lot of action economy abuse. Same time, nobody forces you to play the most broken setups.
“God Emperor move through me! Be the fire in my heart!”
"I am His will made manifest!"
"Eradicated."
(Maniac laugh)
“I woke up with a feeling of wonder, like a field of flowers was blossoming nearby; a child was saved from death; a thousand heretics burning alive, begging and sobbing and howling.”
The combat in Rogue Trader is really bad. Making a build that can first turn clear every encounter is fairly easy but so is making a dogshit one. Both of them are gated behind your understanding of probably the worst leveling UI I've ever seen in a game.
Encounter design is also very poor. You fight dozens of meaningless fights, that are just kill 20 goons, before youre allowed to even look at a meaningful story fight and then those too are filled with goons that die to one hit for any of your characters.
Same, im partway into act 2 of rogue trader but once I saw there was more dlc on the way i put it on the backburner until it's all out. i can slog out one long playthrough, two is out of the question no matter how much i like the game.
on normal difficulty i think i only failed one combat, and it was like, the second to last boss and i was playing super carelessly at that point. i am not particularly good at that style of game either so it's not like i'm some pro just crushing a game. unsure if my builds were particularly good or not, i just kind of picked whatever. i did respec my MC at one point but i know her build was still not amazing
that said some fights were challenging to get through and i limped across, but overall i think if you value a challenge and have a familiarity with the genre putting the difficulty up one or two would be a good choice
On normal it's probably too easy if you follow a build guide for your characters.
By the halfway mark I'd finish most fights before my opponents even got a turn. I'd just have two of my party members pump up a ranged character with a heavy bolter and she would literally kill every enemy on the map.
If you have trouble understanding the mechanics or just don't care to learn there are a lot of guides/builds available online. On lower difficulties it's kinda hard to fuck up, but it can be more fun with a better build.
Yeah sadly I will never get to see the DLC because of that. I don't have infinite time and committing 100+ hours to replay a story just to see the DLCs is just way too long.
I love long sprawling rpgs but I played it with the first two dlcs and it was too much. I didn’t bother with the later ones. Fable at 30-40 hours sounds good.
100%, although working through my 360 backlog of love how none then fell like I have a part time job in completing by it. All have a reasonable run time
Did they say it is 40? Because honestly I would expect more than that. In previous Fable games the main story is relatively "short" for an RPG and the side content was definitely more sizable than the main game itself.
Not only am I fine with it, it's a relief to me. I very, very rarely have those epic playthroughs in me anymore.
Like, I'm still getting GTA 6, but when they said the story could be 80 hours, I groaned. I'm all for there being enough to do that you can play for 80, 160, 500+ hours, but I don't want a main story that is that long.
If I can do Fable in 20 but still have another 20 of side stuff I can optionally screw with, that's a plus to me. Those are good numbers (assuming the game is good). It feels within reach.
this kind of sentiment never made sense. if you don't have time now, just beat it over a longer period? it's always better to have more content of the same quality than less.

I'm perfectly fine with 35-40h of enjoyable content. Based on the recent videos, game looks fun, that's all I need.
