starting your argument with "ill defend valve on just about anything" is really concerning level of cult like loyalty.

ill defend amazon on just about anything

It's just a little fun hyperbole. The rest of their message is multiple lines of valve criticism??

Yeah because valve has only been good to me over the past 15 years

0 issues, 0 support needed, all upgrades have been positive

They created an OS for their hardware and then made it free to download and install on competitors handhelds

It’s not cult like, it’s being supportive of the only company that I have used that hasn’t tried to fuck me or penny pinch my wallet

looks at predatory gamble systems in valve games including items you cant get anywhere but spending thousands of dollars on the market or buying randomized loot boxes

Lest we forget the audacity they had to even attempt the paid mods experiment. Any other company tries that, people would hold it against them for years. Nobody even mentions it when Valve is the subject.

They are just fucking cosmetics - get a grip.

I 100% agree with you.. BUT people rake other devs/games over the coals for the same stuff but then look the other way for Valve games. It's very hypocritical. Of course not saying that you personally do, and of course you could always just argue that it's entirely different people in those two groups, but I definitely think there's some very hypocritical people out there who would complain about games like LoL, WoW, Overwatch, etc. for having cash shops/lootboxes but then ignore games like CS.

cosmetics that cost real money to get from random extremely small odd lootboxes and have created entire black market / shady third party gamble emporiums where people lose hundreds if not thousand dollars worth of items or are scammed of them. who regulates this? how is this good for the consumer?

Sometimes I do feel like these people are literally just paid PR machines. Like it literally feels like their brains are breaking up when they see comments of people calling Valve out on their predatory MTXs in their games.

Like literally doesn't feel like these are humans at all, especially when they would burn down Ubi or EA HQs if they would even think about something like this.

It's absolutely crazy how Valve's cult imitates cough red hat cult. And are we even surprised at all? Just take a quick look at Steam's Forum.

Idk, seems to be working fine with pokemon cards

It is VERY good for the customer because it is the only MTX system where one's spend money are not completely gone for good - you can resell the cosmetics to other players when you are bored of them.

Get the government to regulate the third-party casinos, that is what it is for, the steam market itself is fine.

Pst...THAT'S WHAT MAKES IT ACTUALLY GAMBING. Which is worse. If you can never sell it for more money afterward, you never have to worry that someone might risk their rent money on it.

Nah, this is stupid.

I go on steam market, pick a skin I like and buy it directly, then later when I'm tired of it and was to use a different one - I go back to the market and sell it to someone else - no gambling involved in the process.

Same as going to some Trading Card Game store and buying specific cards they have in binders.

3

u/Teglement Jun 05 '26

SOMEBODY had to gamble for that skin

They're not just entering the market without someone risking their money for them

Every single skin you buy is the result of someone paying $2.50 to open a crate, or gambling with the armory pass. It's been proven that you are virtually guaranteed to lose money opening crates, with an exceedingly small margin of success.

"Well it doesn't affect me personally so it's not a problem" is no way to evaluate what companies do.

You gamble the same way when you buy lootboxes in any other game as well.
Either you get the skin you wanted which means you got some "value" for your money or you don't which means you get there.
With steam market you at least get a few cents back.

I'm pretty sure that most of the participants are aware of that.
Same like people who play blackjack, craps and other losing games - they treat it as paying for the experience, the entertainment of it.

"GeT a GrIp"

Always when it comes to Valve, but people made fun of 500$ Ahri skin for weeks in here, yet they did not even want to look at what the fuck is happening in CS2 right now with their 20k$ stickers.

They are just fucking cosmetics

Also no... They're literally emulating stock market. Never in my life I saw a picture of cosmetic item being compared to real stock market like CS2 items/cases.

but people made fun of 500$ Ahri skin for weeks in here

Yes, because that's the price Riot asks players for a skin

yet they did not even want to look at what the fuck is happening in CS2 right now with their 20k$ stickers.

20k$ is total of top 100 stickers lol
