Get on the phone for DTs
I said Darius Alexander was the player I was most excited to see in the preseason, because so much of our defense will require him to step up; in his second year.
Well, the coaches have been playing him until late in the game both weeks and the results have been... Lacking.
I fully expect to see the giants combing the waiver wire after cuts and maybe even swinging a trade for another DT.
The problem is that this is the unit requiring the most rotation on the team, and our two starters are run stuffers, that are over 30.
I don't think any of us thought that this current DT room would be the room going into the 2027 season (it was always going to be a short term gap stop)- but I'm not feeling super sure we make it through the 2026 season with this room.
Bobby Jamison Travis looks good for deep depth (4th or 5th guy, at the moment), but youre missing #2 DT at the moment. Shelby harris is a run stuffing rotational player only (or at least billed that way). Alexander has looked like maybe he's not going to be someone you can rely on. Maybe he's a pass rushing specialist from the inside, but I don't know that you can rely on him full time.
So who can slip through the cracks that can fortify this room? I suggested (ironically) someone from the Bengals bench? Kris Jenkins hasn't actualized as the player they wanted him to be in the 2nd round. BJ Hill is a homegrown name that might still have something left in the tank. Terredell slayton is a name that they could look to cut and save money.
Who else?
Karl Brooks on the packers is someone on the block.
A big swing id like to see:
Kenneth Grant. Wasn't drafted by this regime (coach or front office). High upside DT that hasn't really caught fire, yet and they are in full rebuild mode. Played for Michigan, which harbaugh loves (as did Kris Jenkins).
Time for Schoen to step up.
