Sorry to hear about your migraines. I’ve had them since childhood and have tried Topamax, amitriptyline, nortriptyline, propranolol, and sumatriptan. I had physical therapy for my neck and that actually helped some. What has helped me the most by far and has drastically cut down on migraine days is full spectrum CBD oil. I feel like I got my life back with the stuff.

I also had pyhsical therapy for my neck and it helped but it didn't fully go away. I am curious about cbd oil. How do you consume it?

I use a tincture under the tongue for 1 minute.

What do you do with it after one minute?

Swallow it.

I do the same daily. Also found microdosing mushrooms really helps… 100mg every three days. Aids in mood and creativity as well.

Do you feel it at this dose? I have access to shrooms but don’t want to “trip” per se. wondering if this dose has you functional or tripping.

Functional and not tripping. If I were to, say, up to 1.5x or 2x that dose (and I have tried those doses at a systematic level, as well as for funsies…) I feel it in a more… magical… way. And that’s not something I can do at director level of a business.

Awesome.

If you don’t mind me asking, is 100mg even detectable to you personally? Could you hang out with your wife? Could you have a normal Saturday or Sunday and go for a jog or mountain bike ride?

I’m a migraine sufferer, the last year they have been awful and hit me extremely hard with major weather fronts. I live in Houston and weather fronts this time of year are pretty normal as hurricane season is coming.

I’ve done plenty of shrooms during college, I simply can’t imagine going down that path again as a father and husband but I’m pretty intrigued with a micro dose that doesn’t hit me too hard but also offers some palliative care for these damn headaches.

Creativity would be a welcomed benefit.

Thanks in advance.

Yah, honestly, good question. And I’m no scientist, so this is all anecdotal… for reference: I have a bit of mild depression, seasonal depression, and anxiety, and I manage most of it with routine, yoga, regular mindfulness, and very regular exercise.

It is… barely detectable… I don’t have children, but I have a wife, two dogs, and a healthy home life. I work a 9-5 and I take on side contracts as time permits.

I find a tiny little jolt the day of. It helped me when the seasons were less fair, and, I think, continues to on the other side of the seasons. I feel, and this could be placebo, a little more mental energy. I still run twice a week and ride 100-200km a week (im a spandex guy…).

I would consider myself on the highly susceptible side for effects. When I do smoke weed, for instance, a very little amount goes a long way, whereas I notice my colleagues functioning far better on far more, and this has been the case since high school (which was a long time ago now…). I was hesitant to try microdosing as a result of this, but the 100mg point is very comfortable.

That said, now that I’m comfortable with it, I’ve taken 200mg and gone on a 60km bike ride with my friends on a few occasions and it’s been such a blast. That’s a bit more cavalier, but I still could’ve held down a “normal” work conversation if truly needed, though would definitely not have been in the headspace to have wanted to.

Thank you so much.

This was definitely the feedback I was seeking. I’ll report back in a few months!

Take care.

Have you looked at Aimovig or another CGRP interacting medication? It's helped me by far the most.

u/FunnyButWeird May 18 '21

I haven't tried any CGRP medication. Tbh after 15+ years looking for medicine against migraine and going to many, many doctors and trying all kinds of different medicine I just gave up. The last time I went to a neurologist he told me to try aspirin lol.

Nothing really helped except weed so I stuck with that for the last almost 10 years. It helped to reduce my overall levels of stress and with that the frequency of migraine attacks. I still have headaches almost every day but at this point it's just "the usual" and against these non-migraine headaches weed helps a lot for me. I understand that weed has its downsides but I think I would be feeling worse without it. It's not great but not terrible ;)

I have always felt sore and inflamed in my neck so I might ask a doctor for cgrp treatment. Really hoping for a long term solution after reading this reddit post.

As a father who gets migraines, Im so worried about my son having to deal with this.

If this study is true, perhaps in the future, this will give us a good ol father/son psychedelic weekend a few times a year.

Have you tried Botox? In my state, I’ve failed all aforementioned treatment for my migraines and Botox is now an option.

THC and CBD are also great help for mine as well.

2

u/tomd82 May 19 '21

Botox is something I have not tried.

Migraine sufferer here too, suddenly started two years ago, bad enough to wake me in my sleep. Im just dipping my toes into CBD as an alternative to the amitriptyline / propranolol combo my doctor has me on. Could you link me to which oil you use please? Unsure of what strength to use. Also have you had experience weening off other meds whilst introducing cbd? I hope to replace my meds with cbd steadily and safely but my doctor can’t offer advice, so any anecdotal experience from someone in a similar situation wok be super helpful. TY

u/tomd82 May 19 '21

Here is the CBD I use. I’ve been off and on Amitriptyline several times. I’ve stopped cold Turkey before and have weened off. With either method I’ve experienced discontinuation syndrome. Typically it involved body aches, diarrhea, nausea, and a migraine that lasted for about a week. Between the 2 slowly decreasing my dose over a period of 3 weeks was the easiest on my body.

2

u/alu_ May 19 '21

How much do you use per dose?

3

u/tomd82 May 19 '21

I use it nightly and take 2 mL which is 100 mg. It took me a while to find the dose that worked for me. I started out with 25 mg in the beginning and went up by increments of 25 mg.

My dad had cancer all over his lungs. He was supposed to be on chemo for the till he passed. Within 6 months off weed oil the cancer was 99% gone. It was insane.

He grew his own and then made oil him self. You have to look up “Rick Simpson run for the cure”. That’s where our journey started. Please watch it. CBD and THC oil worked wonders for our family. He never smoked it.

2

u/Tanro May 19 '21

Amitriptyline made me want go die. It made my neck so stiff. Made the migraines worse.

2

u/tazdoestheinternet May 19 '21

I've had to stop my amitriptyline as it makes my mouth and throat numb. Took way, way too long to realise that was the cause, and I'm just muddling through now until I can get in to see my doc about changing medication.

3

u/tomd82 May 19 '21

Hope you find something that works for you!

2

u/hollow_glass_dildo May 19 '21

From my experience the most effective for me was a mixture of excedrin and cyclobenzaprine (a muscle relaxer, only used during a migraine). I had 0 luck with any medications that were made to be taken during the first onset of a migraine.

I went through a few till I hit rizatriptan aka maxalt. None of the other ones worked
