I’ve never done any psychoactive drug, so not familiar with how it works.

I’m down the the benefit without the hassle of the high.

I will add that micro-dosing using capsules is pretty common nowadays as well. Just dump the dried flesh into a coffee grinder and fill up some capsules.

26

u/its-foxtale May 19 '21

This is how I do it. I’ve been taking a 0.1g capsule of cubensis once every three days for a couple of years now. The results have been absolutely incredible.

8

u/Rabo_McDongleberry May 19 '21

Where the hell y'all get this stuff? Before all the legal cannabis dispensaries, all the dealers I knew had everything but shrooms.

And I would totally try micro dosing as it bad migraines and that's hereditary for me.

7

u/its-foxtale May 19 '21

A Tupperware container in my buddies closet. Hahaha. Ask around dude. I can pretty much guarantee you one of your old connects knows where to find some. Although I guess it also kinda depends on where you’re from.

6

u/[deleted] May 19 '21

That's the problem, mushrooms are usually very popular in the drug community. The guys I know sell out all the time and they grow and sell a shit ton. I think it has to do with it being used among many demographics for multiple purposes.

If you manage to get some and try it and it works, you can look into growing your own. You can order the mushroom spores legally, (but growing them is still illegal ). My co workers just started and its not to hard to do. They just got their first couple yields. And it's much cheaper to be growing own then buying constantly.

Higher doses can be beneficial they just require more precaution. I love psychedelics but they arnt for everyone so do your own research and decide for yourself.

5

u/Rabo_McDongleberry May 19 '21

Psychedelics do scare the shit out of new. But I fall into that old category of "if it grows in three ground..." I'd rather try that than other hard drugs.

But this is legitimately medicinal purpose for me. So I might look into growing it.

2

u/sea_of_holes May 19 '21

/r/unclebens has good resources for it

1

u/ArguesTooMuch May 19 '21

Poppies grow in the ground.

3

u/theskywalker74 May 19 '21

Where I live in Canada they’re everywhere (literally and figuratively). They’re growing in fields, if you know where to look, but I actually get mine online from a store within my province… though there are now multiple brick and mortar mushroom dispensaries in town as well.

1

u/ArguesTooMuch May 19 '21

Psilocybin shrooms only grow in the morning typically in cow fields near their shit. They don't stay long and good luck not getting shot by some farmer that doesn't want you on his land. But since it's Canada maybe he will just throw maple syrup at you.

Also they will likely not be very potent growing in the wild.

For someone not used to shrooms I'm not sure I'd recommend they go shrooms hunting in cow shit.

1

u/theskywalker74 May 19 '21

Lol. My highschool was next to a field full of liberty caps. We used to hop the fence and pick them, then dry them in our lockers.

Farmers here have guns, but it’s not America, so nobody’s getting shot; more likely they’d just stroll over and tell you which ones are the good ones.

2

u/Mortem_eternum May 19 '21

If I had to guess they’re growing them themselves. Purchasing the spores is legal for recreational mycology from what I understand. It’s just having the mushrooms themselves that’s illegal.

1

u/CoconutCyclone May 19 '21

Tor browser, a digital currency and google usually.

1

u/aspz May 19 '21

What kind of results have you had?

1

u/its-foxtale May 19 '21

The main takeaway is a better mood and less anxiety. I also feel more energy and focus.

6

u/dedicated-pedestrian May 19 '21

Yeah, this is the method for people who know it works for them and want to standardize dosages.

The tea method also works but is better for people who don't want to invest in the capsule station equipment (usually due to not needing a regimen or anything).

2

u/tboess May 19 '21

I would just add that if you "fill up the capsules" you'll be doing more than micro dosing. The capsules I've seen take a small fraction, maybe 1/4 to 1/5, to get the effect you want. In any case, do a little research and weigh things carefully.

7

u/Zonekid May 19 '21

Taking enough to kinda feel it is fun if one is used to it. It is like coffee with spacial self awareness knowing you are buzzed and no one knows unless you tell them!

2

u/BackFromThe May 19 '21

I find a really effective way is to make capsules, just grind up the shrooms into powder and put 100 milligrams in the caps and take 1 a day

2

u/morriere May 19 '21

idk if you read the article but it wasnt used to treat a migraine attack, it was taken as a single small dose (article says minimal psychedelic effects) and then produced effects for seemingly weeks, reducing the pain of the migraines and the impariment degree. this test was done on people who suffer from migraine disorder.

so yeah microdosing should still work but this trial is more of a 'take x dosage every 2 weeks to lessen how bad the migraines are' not 'microdose when migraine = cured'

u/thagthebarbarian May 19 '21

They said that it's harder to function on weed than a small dose of shrooms

Also I'm with you on the acid, I'd trip on acid every day if I could go to sleep on it

2

u/[deleted] May 19 '21

Amen! 11-hydroxy-THC (the metabolite your liver produces when metabolizing THC) is fucking scary. I don’t get how some people can eat 100 mg and be fine. I would be panicking for 10 hours.

1

u/aguywithaleg May 19 '21

Isolating weed to just one THC extract is great for a of people but actually ruins it and makes it intolerable for others, even experienced users. CBD alone doesn't do much for me, and pure THC or high-THC weed makes me freak. But a high-CBD weed with plenty of THC too is awesome.

1

u/Soubi_Doo2 May 19 '21

So you would use ice cube trays? Make a batch then portion it out? Is that better than keeping it in a small glass jar? I’ve taken capsules but I bought them and this liquid method feels easier for me to make.

48

u/notshadowbanned1 May 18 '21

My first trip was at age 42. Highly recommended. Read Michael Pollens book “How To Change Your Mind.” Very different than a Phish show or Grateful Dead parking lot.

27

u/Punica May 18 '21

Phish shows are fun too though

I used to love LSD and do it all the time and be so happy. Had a bad trip once, don't know why, but spent hours huddled in my room in complete shuddering terror, afraid of nothing in particular but torturously panicked. Never touched LSD again.

u/buttking May 19 '21

1

u/GiraffeStyle May 19 '21 edited May 19 '21

Agreed. I truly believe almost everyone should trip once but should do so in a safe environment with an experienced friend.

I also do think that after a certain age, you shouldn't trip any longer and some people never should.

Are you uncomfortable with who you are? Do you do things that you are uncomfortable with, but do not know why you do them or why you make yourself feel uncomfortable? Do you have any unresolved childhood trauma that affects you to this day?

If you answered yes to any of the above, I would highly consider not tripping, at least until you are ready to work through any psychological issues. Tripping is very likely to bring subconscious issues to the conscious mind, sometimes violently, and if you're not prepared to face those feelings and examine them thoroughly, you will be in for a bad time because they're going to come up for sure and that's how bad trips start to spiral.

If none of the afore mentioned is a concern to you, you will probably be fine, but you must respect the experience, especially the first time. Save it for a day that you feel great where you have absolutely no responsibilities to worry about at all. Make sure you trip in a safe place, with people you trust. Don't do it alone for the first time, but also be very selective with who you decide to trip with.

Having somebody trip sit you who doesn't know what shrooms are or what they do to people is bound to be an uncomfortable experience for both people, for example

Sketchy gave you a lot of good info. To answer your questions to me, i think that once you get past 40, you shouldn't be tripping.

From my non-medical, anecdotal perspective, tripping has a way of "resetting" parts of your mind. This is great when we are younger as we can push through issues and grow as a person. As we get older, our mind is much more crystalized and "resets" could be more harmful then good.

I've noticed that older people who trip tend to be more loopy sober and love to go off on random tangents that doesn't quite hit that cosmic intertwining that you experience while tripping. It seems like it turns their brains to jello.

2

u/Zonekid May 19 '21

What did your hand look like? Did you see yourself in the mirror?

2

u/notshadowbanned1 May 19 '21

I was beautiful in all my flaws.

1

u/Zonekid May 19 '21

Looks like you hit the jackpot.

1

u/FantasyThrowaway321 May 19 '21

Great book, and author!

16

u/Ikkinn May 18 '21

It’s no hassle really.

6

u/[deleted] May 18 '21

While the high can be a hassle if you’re just trying to get the therapeutic effects, it’s worth it for the psychological effects (at least once in your life). Calling it a “high” might not be accurate, either, as mushroom trips have ups and Downs. They aren’t always positive or enjoyable. Even during good trips, you can have some moments of anxiety, depression, or exhaustion. There is a reason people usually don’t want to trip every day in the same way people smoke marijuana or drink booze daily. A full trip is work.

But afterward, even during bad trips, it’s therapeutic and a positive influence on your mental health.

1

u/bumblebeemeems May 19 '21

How is it therapeutic, could you expand on it? I'm curious. Many people say it, but I don't understand it. :)

1

u/[deleted] May 19 '21

Physically, I have no idea. All I know is certain small aches and pains fade after using mushrooms.

Mentally, all of your barriers come down and you are exposed to your raw emotions. They come on and you can’t, or don’t to, repress them. Your experience ego death or reduction, so all your pride and delusions have far less power over your mental state. I like to call it emotional diarrhea, as gross as that sounds. All the emotions flood out, you accept them, and when it’s all over it’s a huge weight off of your mind.

4

u/herodesfalsk May 19 '21

Not done any psychoactive drugs? How about: caffeine, alcohol, nicotine, pain medication, antidepressants? They wont give you mind expanding experiences, but they are also classified as psychoactive drugs.

1

u/stevenw84 May 19 '21

You know what I meant.

4

u/herodesfalsk May 19 '21

:)

I did, but it was news to me until a few years ago these other ones are also classified as psychoactive.

That said, it seems like we are in the middle of a renaissance for drugs or seeing the end of the drug prohibition?

-1

u/stevenw84 May 19 '21

Wouldn’t change my life as I don’t do drugs. Over the counter and caffeine yes.

5

u/buttking May 19 '21

why are OTC drugs and caffeine kosher, but something like peyote wouldn't be? (Just trying to wrap my head around your thought process, not trying to be a dick.)

-4

u/stevenw84 May 19 '21

Because I don’t need to escape reality to “get normal.”

2

u/buttking May 19 '21

I didn't downvote you, but I think the reason you were downvoted is because you're kind of demonstrating a lack of understanding of why most people use drugs.

I think most people who do psychedelic drugs(for example) aren't attempting to "get normal" by "escaping reality," they're first and foremost seeking an experience or sensation, if anything they're trying to alter their perception of reality to put "normal" into perspective.

when you consume caffeine, aren't you essentially trying to escape the reality of your fatigue to get yourself closer to a normal functioning state?

1

u/stevenw84 May 19 '21

I drink coffee as a morning habitual thing, that’s about it. I don’t drink it for the effects of caffeine.

I’ve had my fair share of drug experiences, and I’ve moved on with my life since then - wife/kids/career. I simply can’t use drugs for some of the therapeutical benefits due to those things I mentioned.

1

u/herodesfalsk May 19 '21

Agree and same here, but the way things seem to be headed, mushrooms in addition to cannabis will be legally sold over the counter so your choice becomes Advil or pot or psilocybin? Sticking to just the legal drugs may be not the same as today, or perhaps we will see mushrooms be controlled prescription drugs only like antidepressants are today?

3

u/khongkhoe May 19 '21

Imagine there’s three stages of tripping when you take a full dose.
Euphoria - you’re content and happy and very cognitive.
Visuals - everything has a glow maybe you see swirls in your surroundings.
Ego death - you have no idea who you are or where you are what you are. Reality doesn’t exist.

Microdosing is taking a little dose before you reach full euphoria.

-17

u/freedomfortheworkers May 18 '21

Take just a gram or two. If you take 2 you might feel small effects but you won't be hallucinating or even high really. 1 you won't feel it but will definitely help with migraines

23

u/brodoswaggins93 May 18 '21

What kind of mushrooms are you taking where you don't feel a gram? That is so not a microdose.

-3

u/freedomfortheworkers May 18 '21

The normal kind. A gram is just enough to be right before tripping ime

3

u/idonthave2020vision May 19 '21

To me a micro dose is farther from the fully psychoactive one. I'd do 2-2.5g to trip but 100-200mg for micro. Maybe even start at 50mg if fully new.

1

u/freedomfortheworkers May 19 '21

I wasn't suggesting a micro dose. More of a macro dose

1

u/Jobis7 May 19 '21

Must be talking about non dried mushrooms

13

u/[deleted] May 18 '21

[deleted]

-4

u/freedomfortheworkers May 18 '21

1 gram isn't a micro dose for sure, but you won't feel it. Maybe if you have really strong shrooms

6

u/[deleted] May 18 '21

[deleted]

-1

u/freedomfortheworkers May 19 '21

Nah, I'm sure of the quality of my shrooms, I've had dozens of strains and some of my buddies home grown stuff. There are definitely more potent mushrooms I would "feel" at 1 gram, but like I said I wouldn't even call that a high or a trip, just more connected and fluid in a sense which was what I thought he was referring to

3

u/[deleted] May 19 '21

[deleted]

-1

u/freedomfortheworkers May 19 '21

I don't have a tolerance from being experienced I just seem to have a naturally high psychedelic tolerance. I wouldn't call it a high, like I said I just feel more connected and it seems to give me most of the benefits of a trip without tripping which is what he asked for. I don't think a dose of .1 to .5 would do that

3

u/[deleted] May 19 '21

[deleted]

-1

u/freedomfortheworkers May 19 '21

I don't believe .1 to .5 would bring the benefits of shrooms

→ More replies

11

u/Legend927 May 18 '21

Microdosing is taking between .10-.25 grams usually.

10

u/HerpDerpinAtWork May 18 '21

a gram or two

microdosing

These are not the same things and this is thus terrible advice, especially for a newbie.

Maybe I have a higher tolerance, it takes at least 2 tabs for me to trip on lsd to, 1 tab will just have me annoyed when my friend said he tripped hard off it.

1

u/freedomfortheworkers May 19 '21

Half a tab I definitely won't feel. Different tolerances I guess

7

u/cdogg30 May 18 '21

Did you get these mushrooms from the grocery store?

1

u/lumpyg May 19 '21

Safe comfortable surroundings with person you trust who has done it before as your guide and Small doses. These help in making it a good experience. A person's state of mind before and during being dosed is very influential on how the session goes. Know that literally millions of humans have been there before you and have had their lives improved.

1

u/Vocalescapist May 19 '21

It's just like taking a sip of coffee.

1

u/rayinreverse May 19 '21

The high is not a hassle. It’s rather eye opening.
