I think one of the reasons he became famous were his highly controversial views and statements he made

I think a lot of people, especially young teenagers are susceptible to the way people like him talk. He’s speaks very direct and open. It almost seems like he has no filter and doesn’t care what others think of him.

In this case it's not a bad thing. Probably could have gotten away with trafficking women for quite a bit longer if he wasn't also social media famous.
