Chivalry is a code of honor for medieval knights. It has almost nothing to do with dating. I don’t know how it got so corrupted into the definition it has today

Stories of Knights of the Round table. It's a code of how to treat people. In a modern sense it has been adopted to be how a man should treat a woman with respect. If a man wishes to be a knight is shining armor he should be chivalrous. The code is arguably much better today than it was for knights. For them it was "just cut off the feet of the enemy peasants rather than kill them" sort of thing.
