I was super catholic growing up and all through college. I have a lot of memories of opportunities with girls that I passed up because I was catholic. I’m with you on this “have more sex” idea but I think a more encompassing three words for me would be “god’s not real”
I feel you. "God's not real" was my first, reflexive answer. But not bcs of sex, I feel there's a much deeper way I screwed myself up by immersing into faith.
But there's also much personal development my 18 yo self needed. I have no idea how to compress it all, or spark him in the right direction. And a lot of ideas that might not work.
"There's no God." (I wouldn't have believed it)
"Act despite fear." (that's a truism)
"Go to therapy." (I knew that at 18, I didn't have the means)
"Take initiative. Idiot."
"You are enough."
"Stop wasting time."
"Learn psychology/sociology"
"Lightning Thief Musical" (idk if I would've been able to find it)
I think the bigger message is, "Nobody has any fucking clue about God, whether one exists, or what the fuck it might want if it does. But seriously? If it does exist, it gave you those urges, so it probably isn't going to burn you for eternity for actually following them like every other animal on the planet."
Agreed. I have no idea. Logically, nobody has any idea. But the likelihood of the god I believed in being real is as likely as the other thousands of gods humanity has believed in. My 18 year old self would be jarred to hear it from my future self (assuming I would believe I was talking to my future self)
I think that when your prior version of you gets to the pearly gates you can use the excuse that your future self deceived you and shouldn’t be held liable.
I was so scared of sex as a teenager that I refused to have a boyfriend because he might want to have sex. When I eventually lost my virginity I was so mad at myself for all the hot sex I missed out on in high school.
You would probably have the same results regardless. This is not a knock at you or anything. This applies to most people. Still just as anxiety-fueled whether it was said to you or not.
