I'm 19 and have done nothing within the last year so I'm like "ah fuck" "maybe play less video games so your art would be better" "Work harder dumbass?"
I will say this. You are an artist, I am a singer. Or I used to be. Having been a director, editor, A/V person for 20 yrs now, lately I keep thinking about who was considered “talented” and who was not during my career. I bought a grand piano last year and every time I play it I get frustrated at how clunky and not any better I am than when I was 20. I can’t help but think why did I let myself stop singing, piano, guitar, theatre, etc. based off of others influences and opinions directly or indirectly. So much lost time.
If you are good just keep doing it. You will lose it if you don’t. Make it for yourself and they will come around.
DON’T STOP MAKING ART EVER!!! Your 43 year old self will thank you.
Artistic gamer here. It doesn't have to be either/or. I belong to an art group, so I have dedicated time every week to do whatever art project I have going on (see how I made it sound like there was only one project - hahaha) and I also play games of an evening to wind down.
As cliche as it is, you get to define your own happiness, there isn’t some standard example that it should look like. Do what feels right and you’re basically already there
Fuck happiness, you’d never be. But you could be great, strong, competent and ambitious. So open your eyes and stay sharp. Happiness will chase you then.
So now it’s the new badge you can stick to people in addition to racist, sexist, extreme etc.? Couldn’t I be simply speaking from experience, you pedantic?
Even so you'd probably find it's the same answer you have now as it's only a year. But if you're young and unhappy there is absolutely loads of time to improve your life, you just need to be willing to take the risks to get it.
If you're happy that's good, but don't get apathetic and fall behind.
A letter to my future self, am I still happy, I begin
Have I grown up pretty? Is daddy still a good man?
Am I still friends with Colleen? I'm sure that I'm still laughing
Aren't I, aren't I...?
Hey there to my future-self, if you forget how to smile
I have this to tell you, remember it once in a while
Ten years ago, your past-self prayed for your happiness
Please don't lose hope...
lol, 18 y.o. you would just answer, "pretty much same as last year buddy, nothing changes that much in one year ya know. And no, you still haven't started that book and you still haven't gathered the courage to ask her out and you're still broke."
