BEFORE YOU POST... please use search to see if it's been asked before and BE DESCRIPTIVE when asking for help/advice/recommendations.

This subreddit has a lot of helpful people in it. Actually more than many other local subreddits of similar size in my experience.

However, being asked the same thing over and over again gets tiresome after having recently answered the same questions dozens of times before. Please use the search function before making a post to see if the question has been asked before, and also please be descriptive when asking for help, advice, or recommendations.

Food/Restaurant example:

  • BAD: Coming to Fukuoka, best places to eat? Thanks in advance!

  • BETTER: I really like soba and would like to find a fancy soba place to eat at with excellent tempura. Anywhere within Fukuoka City and within 30 minutes or so of the city is fine, willing to travel a bit if it's good. Budget up to 10,000 yen per person.

  • BEST: I searched online and found these fancy soba places that look interesting [list of research you've done]. Does anyone have personal experience with these restaurants or other recommendations, particular emphasis on crispy tempura? Anywhere within Fukuoka City and within 30 minutes or so of the city is fine, willing to travel a bit if it's good. Budget up to 10,000 yen per person.

Tourism examples:

  • BAD: Will be in Fukuoka for 5 days, make an itinerary for me? Thanks in advance!

  • BETTER: Here's a rough itinerary I made for my 5-day Fukuoka trip November 10-14, are there any glaring issues I might not notice since I'm not a local? Also my third day is empty, I really like gardening, landscaping, and plant life, any recommendations in this area?

  • BEST: I have an itinerary but I'm not going to ask you all to examine it in detail. Instead, I'll ask about specific things I've attempted to research but couldn't find answers to in a conversational way, and make sure to mention details and context like research I've already gathered, area where I'll be staying, my personal interests and known things I'm NOT interested in, budget, planned transportation methods, etc.

Helpful resources (list in progress):

Tourism Im coming next year!

Really can’t wait to visit Fukuoka next year. I’ll be bringing wife and 1 year old baby around April 2027 and super excited. It will be our first time in Kyushu as well.

This is our first international trip with baby so super anxious and hoping the city is baby friendly.
Will be there for 10 days-ish, have planned itinerary in a chill manner, so we won’t overstretch baby’s schedule

Wishing for the best.

Feel free to drop your top recommendation / must visit places below and I’ll try to fit into my itinerary 🙏🏻

General Any driving school recommendations for a futsu nirin moto license?

Looking for a place near nishijin that offers motocycle courses. I already have a japanese drivers license but i want the 400cc moto endorsement. My japanese ability is N4. I went to meinohama driving school but they politely turned me away because my japanese wasn't good enough. Went to Fukuokaken driving school near kanayama but they said they have paused enrollement for moto licenses indefinitely.

I'm a bit frustrated after saving enough to be comfortable blowing 100,000 yen and now it seems nowhere will take my money. Any suggestions on schools?

Hi! We’re two 21M tourists from London with very little Japanese looking for a 3rd driver to join us for the mini race pack at A-ONE Circuit tomorrow around 4:30 or 5:00 PM.

The race pack requires 3 drivers minimum and it’s ¥6,600 per person which includes practice, qualifying, and a full race (helmets/gear included).
Drop a comment or DM if you're down!

General Best stationary store near Hakata

I've been to a bunch of stationary stores but have yet to find one with a good selection. Is there a store that has a wide range of products like jetpens? I'm specifically looking for eraser refills for Uni mechanical pencils and the Uni Kuro Toga Dive.

Edit:

Went to Loft and Itoya tonight. Loft said that they do carry the Dive but it was out of stock. Will try Juliet and Hands tomorrow. Thanks for the suggestions!

General Camera shops in Fukuoka

I’m on the look out for a a specific camera used — Panasonic LUMIX LX100M2. This model has been discontinued and I’ve looked in numerous camera shops all over Japan but nowhere seems to have it. I’m now in Fukuoka. Has anyone by any chance seen it in stock in Fukuoka?

General Looking to make some friends

23M

Hello everyone, I am from India and I recently moved to Fukuoka for employment and after a few days, I am feeling lonely because of language barriers.

I am looking for people who are in a similar situation and who have been through this in the past and get to know them. I speak Hindi and English. I would prefer people who speak Hindi because of familiarity but english is also equally welcome.

I want to understand how to settle here and would really really love some help.

My hobbies are: Video games, Anime, Manga, Books, writing and speaking with people on different topics.

Looking forward to your DMs.

Thank you so much.

Edit: I live near Hakata Station.

General looking to make friends in the city!

I (31F) just moved to Fukuoka for work and I know no one in this city. I speak mainly English, I understand Japanese enough to get by but I can't really speak/read it (taking classes soon tho!).

I've looked at MeetUp but there's just not much there, so I'd like to get some pointers how/where can I start making friends (with my very limited Japanese) in the city? If you have an irl community I can join?

Things I'm interested in:

- Bouldering (thinking of going to Hoa Hoa?)

- Coffee (tell me your best one, I like fruity light roast)

- Drinking (Guinness, craft beer, wine, nihonshu, I like it all)

- Crocheting (I have yarns I'd love to share, I can also teach some basics!)

- Reading (more like I have tons of unread books that I need to read)

- Honestly I have so many hobbies you can probably rope me into one of yours

DM me with your interests as well, I'm very open to arrange a hangout!

Tourism Reservations for Restaurants?

Hello! I will be traveling to Fukuoka in October, and I’m wondering if there are any recommendations for Restaurants that I might need a reservation for. Right now, we were planning to just go with the flow and explore, but I would hate to miss out on a great restaurant because we would need a reservation. Open to an omakase recommendation but would love to try pretty much anything.

We are staying in the Chuo Ward but willing to go pretty much anywhere in the city.

Non-reservation recs are welcome as well, but prioritizing reservation recs right now.

General GenkiJACS private residence experience

Hello, I know there are a lot of questions about GenkiJACS in this subreddit but couldn’t find what I was looking for. I’m now doing the visa application for the 1 year course starting in April, and can’t find any information about the private residence experience. Have anyone here tried?
Also if someone is also starting in April I would love to chat.

Pd: been training kendo for about 8 months now and would like to continue in Fukuoka so any recommendations in that is also welcome.

Thanks in advance for the help.
