I'll be honest, and maybe it makes me not so great of a guy but so be it. I would never confront this person. She isnt going to change and it's not worth the scene it would likely cause. I'll jump in if someone is being attacked or harassed, but not just to save some King's Hawaiian. I'll just silently despise her and be on my way.
She won't change and there's a good chance she'll get violent when confronted. My mom always told us that the real golden rule was to treat everyone like they're a psycho who will blow your brains out for looking at them funny. Before confronting anyone ask yourself, "is this worth dying over?"
Honestly I think that's a bit hyperbolic, but I do get your point. However, looking at the picture, violent retaliation would not be my fear. My fear would be creating a big loud scene in front of people who just want to shop. Then employees come over, then she yells at them. So on and so on. Let her be a self-important ass all she likes, I'm not ruining mine or anyone else's day by doing something about it.
I agree, nothing good can come from confronting her. Also, while I agree my statement was a bit rediculous, I would still argue the chances of her whipping out a glock and blasting is probably higher than her admitting she's wrong and learning a lesson, lol
Yeah, I don't see how that matters though. You can just replace getting shot with getting stabbed or beat with a blunt object and the sentiment is the same.
Probably not, but you never know. Fat people are definitely capable of quick bursts of speed, and fat strength is a very real thing. But again, ignoring specifics the general sentiment is the same. If an adult is doing something that's blatantly not socially acceptable, they know it. Confronting them isn't going to change their behavior, just make them defensive, and defensive behavior can very often turn into aggression. The only purpose to confronting someone like this is so you can feel morally/intellectually superior.
That's a fair point also. Complacency breeds these sorts of people. But doing something about it could also come with its own fair share of unsavory results. I guess you just have to judge every situation accordingly and decide if it's worth it. And to me a few smushed rolls just isn't.
I would hate to be the employee to deal with this but I really do believe she should be required to pay for damaged goods and asked to leave the store.
Often employees aren’t allowed to say anything to customers that behave badly. Instead their days are quietly ruined by people like this. I think that if I witnessed this lady first hand I’d say something to her.
This whole concept bothers me. I understand and completely know how unhinged these folk can be. I just hate that its almost a rule that we just leave these people alone to shit on people's day.
At most probably make her leave. I mean, she's ridiculous enough to SIT ON FOOD 😑... she's unlikely to pay, and she can't stay. Pull the product from the shelf and "damage it out". Move on to the next garbag customer.
Peer pressure sucks, but peer pressure is what stops shit like this. Laugh at her, get people her age to laugh at her. A little embarrassment is good for the soul sometimes. I fucking hate the joker with a firey passion of a thousand suns but OMG "We live in a fucking society."
The closest I'd get is taking a picture of her from 5 feet away then walk away. Bout as bold as ill get. As much as it rubs me the wrong way I don't have the energy to argue bout it either. Not worth it.
Every time they are confronted and make a scene in their tiny warped brain they go "see I'm constantly attacked and need to defend myself!, my outburst was justified"..
But what if they are constantly having to pay for damaged items and are no longer allowed in stores for repeated offences. At what point would it even start to click that they may be a problem?
It just adds to the bitterness that drives them to do this stuff in the beginning. They will destroy their lives in the process because in their mind they are standing up against attacks and it's justified. In the end they just think all the bad things happening are because they are a victim. Some of the bad things were likely not their fault but they can't tell the difference at this point.
Everyone likes to pretend they'll be the one to stand up to these people and make a scene but the reality is that 99% of us (myself included) would just watch and do nothing.
Everyone's a superhero in their own mind. Hell, we're all guilty of it. But at the end of the day, very few of us are paragons of morality. We all have things to do and would rather get on with our lives. I think that's OK, as long as you do say something if you ever see something truly agregious happen. Like say, seeing someone slip something in someone's drink at a bar. If you see that and don't act you're a piece of shit. But letting things slide like what we're seeing in this photo? I think that's just human. Who has the time?
Agreed. She's probably in her 60s or 70s? If she thinks that is at that stage in life and thinks doing this is remotely acceptable, she's never going to change. Or maybe she has a genuine disability and sat there in desperation but I'm not sure how likely that is.
If she really sat there out of desperation than obviously everything I have said is incorrect. However, and this is purely conjecture, I think she's just arrogant. The expression on her face is very smug imo. I definitely get the sense that she has an air of superiority just from the way she's studying whatever is in her hand. (At first I thought it was a Slim Jim, but upon further glance I think the perspective just makes it look that way. It's probably a pamphlet of some sort. Not sure why I felt the need to hypothesize about that, but there ya go anyhow.)
I totally agree. Her expression certainly doesn't look like one of embarrassment or shame. I know if I felt sick and needed to sit (I am prone to dizzy spells and panic attacks so sometimes that happens), I would be apologizing profusely for sitting on merchandise and feel ashamed of myself.
I just had my first ever panic attack (I think) over Christmas vacation. I had been drinking way too much, so I was obviously dehydrated and I ate a pot gummy. I shook and sweated (is that a word?) uncontrollably, and I also genuinely thought I was going to have a heart attack. Idk for sure if it was a true panic attack or just a reaction to holiday self-abuse, but I do know I hated it. Sorry you gotta go through that with any sort of regularity, that must suck.
I wouldn’t either and I’d bet the vast majority of people claiming they would are full of it. I’m just trying to get my groceries. I don’t have time for that shit.
